Jessica Williams' piano finds a home on Whidbey

There's a pretty famous piano lurking in the woods of South Whidbey.

Robbie Cribbs, owner of Sound Trap Studios, serendipitously ended up with the concert grand piano of renowned jazz pianist Jessica Williams.

A colleague of Maureen Girard, Robbie went to Girard's 88 Keys Studio in Langley for a birthday celebration in honor of Ms. Williams. He recorded the event, or as he further explained it, "I tried to document it without being an annoyance."

His reaction to the jazz pianist's performance? "I just sort of melted," said Robbie.

Robbie made a DVD of the event and gave it to Williams. They have since become friends.

How the piano came about was quite simple. "I was looking to upgrade my piano," said Robbie. "So I asked her advice."

Out of the blue, Ms. Williams decided she wanted to sell her seven-foot Knabe grand piano to Robbie. The legendary pianist's style was changing, and she wanted to explore other styles on other keyboards.

Jessica Williams' Piano, #2
Ms. Williams autographed her piano, now at home on Whidbey Island.

The piano is only five years old, and it's a beauty.

The move? It's documented on Robbie's website.

Two Guys, a Truck and a 900-Pound Piano.

Sounds like a fun movie.

Like many people, Jessica Williams was enchanted by Whidbey Island. She's interested in finding a house to rent, so if you know of a place that's piano friendly, contact Robbie c/o of his website.
