Motricity, which gobbled up the mobile business unit of InfoSpace last fall for $135 million, is looking to cut more than 200 workers, according to a report in WRAL/LocalTechWire.com.
The online publication also cited anonymous sources who said the company -- backed by investor Carl Icahn -- is considering moving its headquarters from Durham, N.C., to Bellevue.
In a letter last October, Motricity executives said that the company would remain in Durham with "a large base of the InfoSpace Mobile employees continuing to work from the Bellevue, Washington, office." It also named Steve Elfman, former executive vice president of InfoSpace's mobile services business unit, to the position of president and chief operating officer of Motricity.
Motricity completed its acquisition of the InfoSpace unit in late December, announcing $185 million in funding from Advanced Equities, Carl Icahn and New Enterprise Associates at the same time.
UPDATE: A company spokesman declined to comment on the report.
