Which VCs have the Midas touch?

Forbes has unveiled its annual Midas List of the top 100 deal-makers in the tech business.

Last year, I noted how the list didn't mention one venture capitalist from the Pacific Northwest -- even though Madrona Venture Group's Matt McIlwain and Frazier Healthcare Ventures' Nader Naini had good years.

Well, maybe the Forbes editors listened. At least one Seattle VC made the list this year.

Robert Nelsen of Arch Venture Partners comes in at #73. (His photo also is featured on the home page.)

Meanwhile, a story on "Silicon Valley's Coolest Investments" actually features Bingen, Wash., unmanned aircraft maker Insitu. (The story mentions Battery Ventures backing, but not Second Avenue Partners of Seattle.)

Who are the top names? John Doerr of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, Michael Moritz of Sequoia Capital and Ram Shriram of Sherpalo Ventures make the top three.

Once again, Forbes offers its venture capital quiz. I got six of 10, screwing up some of the questions about foreign investment.

And the list features a cool feature from Seattle startup IntellectSpace, showing the connections of each deal-maker to specific companies. Here's a look at Nelsen's connections.

Madrona is on a total roll...they should be all over this!

When I think of Madrona, I'm reminded of the phrase, "Even a blind squirrel finds an acorn occasionally"

FEATURED COMMENT

PictureForget the ad space altogether. It's time that Microsoft to show the long term vision that created their success in the first place. Clearly there are far more valuable, provocative and lucrative problems for technology to solve than consumer spending and entertainment. It's time for the Blue Monster to think bigger thoughts."
