Microsoft has expanded its Startup Accelerator Program in an effort to become more connected to emerging technology companies and help them grow using the software giant's technology.
Microsoft said that more than 50 companies are now involved in the program, which launched last October with about 20 companies.
Among the new companies are Verdiem, a Seattle software startup that reduces energy consumption by powering off personal computers in the workplace. Others include Bellevue mobile software startup Formotus and San Francisco social networking startup Wallop. Formotus and Wallop have deep connections to Microsoft either through people or technology.
And speaking of companies working more closely with Microsoft, Seattle mobile startup Zumobi -- a spin-out from the software giant -- said today that it is working directly with Microsoft to distribute its Zooming User Interface with Windows Mobile software.

Forget the ad space altogether. It's time that Microsoft to show the long term vision that created their success in the first place. Clearly there are far more valuable, provocative and lucrative problems for technology to solve than consumer spending and entertainment. It's time for the Blue Monster to think bigger thoughts."

Wow..if you go to the Microsoft Startup Accelerator website at http://microsoftstartupzone.com/Startups.aspx and click on the Complete Library drop down box on the right, it lists MySpace as a MS startup success story. Now that's really taking credit!
