Mercent has raised $6.5 million in venture funding that the Seattle startup will use to boost marketing and expand its advertising network.

Founded by former Amazon.com employees, Mercent has developed a way for online retailers to easily syndicate products to various online shopping channels, from Shopping.com and Google to Amazon.com and Yahoo Shopping. In December, the company said that it had delivered more than 1 billion product advertisements through its shopping network. Customers include REI, Guess, 1-800-Flowers, PetSmart and others.
"The key to this offering that is different for retailers is that we can tie performance back to specific retail metrics," said Eric Best, the founder and chief executive.
Mercent, which employs about 25 people, previously raised about $6.75 million. Investors in the company include TVC Capital, Madrona Venture Group and The Hillman Company.

Forget the ad space altogether. It's time that Microsoft to show the long term vision that created their success in the first place. Clearly there are far more valuable, provocative and lucrative problems for technology to solve than consumer spending and entertainment. It's time for the Blue Monster to think bigger thoughts."

Mercent seems to be winning big clients in the shopping feed / product feed marketing space. How does this service compare with Marchex and Aquantive?
