OnRequest cuts staff, targets profitability

OnRequest Images laid off eight staffers this week, part of a restructuring that the Seattle customized photography service hopes will position it for profitability early next year.

Chief Executive David Norris declined to disclose total employment at the five-year-old company, but said the layoff impacted less than 10 percent of staff. Three employees in Seattle, an employee in Denver and four sales staffers were included in the cuts. Vice President of Sales Mark Mansfield also lost his job.

The cuts, which occurred Thursday, were not tied to problems in the overall stock photography business, said Norris. (Both Getty Images and Corbis, which are located in Seattle, have laid off employees this year.)

He said the company has experienced record revenue over the past several quarters, a trend he expects to continue this quarter. Clients who use OnRequest for specialized photo projects include T-Mobile, Manpower and Humana.

OnRequest has raised just over $20 million from Menlo Ventures, Maveron and Frazier Technology Ventures.

"We have plenty of capital behind the company, but our profitability goals are pretty aggressive," said Norris.

Thank you SO much for an entire day of postings without mentioning Zillow. Folks do pay attention and appreciate it.

Onrequest is one of the worst companies to work for. They do nothing but go through sales and managment people. The CEO , David Norris is only after venture capital and has no other motive.

Mark was the 4th sales leader in the company to fall by the wayside in less than 2 years, so the question has to be asked "Does OnRequest have a viable offering?" Its hard to imagine that 4 different sales management teams can all be wrong.

Speaking from the customer side, I priced a project with Onrequest Images. When I recieved my quote from my sales rep I nearly fell on the floor! Yes, they can take care of all the details but so can I and for half the price. I don't know what they are thinking over there but the board should look into how and why they are so out of touch with the market. The buzz is they won't be around much longer.

FEATURED COMMENT

PictureForget the ad space altogether. It's time that Microsoft to show the long term vision that created their success in the first place. Clearly there are far more valuable, provocative and lucrative problems for technology to solve than consumer spending and entertainment. It's time for the Blue Monster to think bigger thoughts."
