U2's Bono discusses and sings a new song called Wave of Sorrow in an exclusive on iLike, the Seattle online music service that has been widely adopted by Facebook users. The song will be available next week as part of the re-release of The Joshua Tree, which was first sold in 1987.
But Bono kick starts the marketing effort with the iLike video, explaining that the song is about the famine in Ethiopia. The full video is on U2's iLike page on Facebook.
TechCrunch calls the marketing effort a "huge win" for iLike, also noting that the Seattle startup has ties to U2's lead singer through its PR firm and Elevation Partners (where Bono is a partner along with iLike board member Mark Bodnick.) The viral marketing campaign appears to be working, with more than 9,000 messages posted on U2's iLike page about the video.

Forget the ad space altogether. It's time that Microsoft to show the long term vision that created their success in the first place. Clearly there are far more valuable, provocative and lucrative problems for technology to solve than consumer spending and entertainment. It's time for the Blue Monster to think bigger thoughts."
