« Arizona bill paves way for Zillow to operate in state | Main | Rivals.com sold to Yahoo »
A reader just asked for an updated Seattle area Web 2.0 list, complete with their Alexa rankings.
I put together my first list last August and a second three months ago, with Findory's Greg Linden taking the original information and running it through Alexa.
Now, Marcelo Calbucci at Sampa has put together an index of 142 Web 2.0 companies in Seattle based on Alexa. The latest list -- for the month of May -- shows that iLike has moved into the number one spot with an Alexa ranking of 1,598, while Zillow.com has slipped to the second slot at 1,744. (Interesting to note that in Linden's original post, Zillow ranked at 976) Rounding out the top ten are 43Things, Newsvine, BuddyTV, Wetpaint, PayScale, Blue Dot, Jobster and ProgrammableWeb.
While Alexa is far from the definitive source on these matters and the ranking does not take into account important business factors, like a company's revenue, it is interesting to watch the fluctuations.
One thing that struck me about Calbucci's list is that none of the new breed of Seattle Internet companies crack the top 1,000. Compare that to California where sites such as Facebook, MySpace, Friendster, Flickr, Veoh and Digg are in the Alexa top 100.
Seems like Seattle startups have some catching up to do.

Forget the ad space altogether. It's time that Microsoft to show the long term vision that created their success in the first place. Clearly there are far more valuable, provocative and lucrative problems for technology to solve than consumer spending and entertainment. It's time for the Blue Monster to think bigger thoughts."

#167,035 on Alexa, which would put it at #53 on the Seattle list, just ahead of SmartSheet.
