At least three Seattle area startups will be making an appearance at DEMOfall 2006, a high profile technology conference scheduled for Sept. 25 to 27 in San Diego.

Pluggd, a Seattle podcasting startup created by former Amazon.com developer Alex Castro; Cozi, a Seattle digital home startup led by former Microsoft manager Robbie Cape; and Jookster, a Seattle social search startup founded by Kapenda Thomas and Othniel Palomino, will be unveiling new products at the event.

DEMO, which has served as a launch pad for companies such as Palm and TiVo, usually creates quite a bit of buzz. That's tied in part to the high level of secrecy that presenters must agree to.

Cape, whose 14-person company will unveil its "family ready software" on Sept. 25, said when a company is accepted to present at DEMO they must agree to a series of rules and regulations.

"We had to contractually obligate ourselves to not even announcing to anyone that we would even be at DEMO until (today)," he said.

But Cape doesn't mind. He plans to make a splash at the conference, calling it "a pretty big deal for us."

UPDATE: Pluggd's Alex Castro writes to say that he was not a developer at Amazon, serving instead as senior manager of product and program management in Amazon's Web Services division. He also served as a group product manager at Microsoft.
