Here are some of the upcoming events in Seattle's high-tech and startup community.

  • Saturday is National Biodiesel Day -- marking the birthday of diesel engine inventor Rudolph Diesel. So if you are interested in powering your car on vegetable oil or other alternative energy topics, the Northwest Biodiesel Network will host the fourth annual biodiesel forum at Magnuson Park in Seattle. The organization said it expects more than 800 people, with scheduled speakers such as Dan Freeman of Dr. Dan's Alternative Fuel Werks, Propel Fuels' Rob Elam and U.S. Rep. Jay Inslee. Here are the details.

  • Investors, entrepreneurs and scientists from the Pacific Northwest biotechnology industry will gather next week for the annual Invest Northwest conference. The two-day event will be held March 21 and March 22 at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center on Seattle's waterfront.

More than 50 companies are scheduled to make presentations, including Spiration, Nura, VizX Labs, SonoSite and Dendreon. Scheduled speakers include Accelerator Corp.'s Carl Weissman, U.S. FDA Deputy Commissioner Scott Gottlieb and ZymoGenetics Chief Executive Bruce Carter.

  • Learn from the experts on how to structure and attract angel financing deals in a half day session held March 21. Instructors include Perkins Coie attorneys Ben Straughan, Dave McShea and David Clarke as well as Palidan Partners' Janis Machala. The event is hosted by the Northwest Entrepreneur Network, with reservations available through the organization's Web site. A pizza luncheon will follow the session with select angel investors from the Seattle area scheduled to attend.

    FEATURED COMMENT

PictureForget the ad space altogether. It's time that Microsoft to show the long term vision that created their success in the first place. Clearly there are far more valuable, provocative and lucrative problems for technology to solve than consumer spending and entertainment. It's time for the Blue Monster to think bigger thoughts."

-- Reader on Yahoo deal is over, so what startups will Microsoft buy?.
