Just a few reminders on events and activities occurring in Seattle's emerging technology community in the coming weeks.

Picture

  • The WSA will host the 11th Annual Industry Achievement Awards March 8, with RealNetworks Chief Executive Rob Glaser delivering the keynote address. Seattle area companies up for awards include Attenex, Intelius, Melodeo and Tableau Software. Tickets, which start at $135, are available by calling (206) 448-3033 ext. 107.

  • Peter van Stolk of Jones Soda Co. will speak at the Northwest Entrepreneur Network's Venture Breakfast March 10. van Stolk's topic is "Creating Meaningful Relationships with Customers." Cost is $40 for non-members.

  • I have written a lot about the online real estate industry lately. So I am a little bummed I will miss the MIT Enterprise Forum March 15, which will feature representatives from HouseValues, Redfin and Zillow.com discussing how they are attacking the real estate market. Tickets for the dinner meeting cost $45.

  • Initial applications for The Washington Technology Center's spring Research and Technology Development grant program are due March 23. The WTC offers more than $1.3 million in grant money each year to early-stage high-tech companies that are working in conjunction with academic or non-profit research groups. Past recipients includes RealNetworks, EKOS Corp. and MicroGreen Polymers. Companies can receive up to $300,000 in grants.

UPDATE: Looking to promote how its online calendar technology works, Trumba's Tom Leung created this mini calendar of the above events. Using Trumba's online system, Leung says that users could subscribe to the calendar through an RSS feed or request emails when new events are added. He also said they can download events directly to their personal calendars and submit suggested events. I previously wrote about Seattle-based Trumba here and here.

    FEATURED COMMENT

PictureForget the ad space altogether. It's time that Microsoft to show the long term vision that created their success in the first place. Clearly there are far more valuable, provocative and lucrative problems for technology to solve than consumer spending and entertainment. It's time for the Blue Monster to think bigger thoughts."

-- Reader on Yahoo deal is over, so what startups will Microsoft buy?.
