Finding time to blog

As a relative newcomer to the blogosphere, I understand the time commitment that it takes to write and edit new posts.

That's why I was so fascinated with the number of Seattle entrepreneurs who have carved out the time to operate blogs, which I reported on today in this column.

A short list includes Jason Goldberg at Jobster, David Adams at Mobile Research, David Geller at WhatCounts, Martin Tobias at Seattle Biodiesel and Seamus McAteer at M:Metrics.

I spend about an hour every day on the blog, though it is taking a bit longer today because of all the great content. So the fact that entrepreneurs -- who also must deal with hiring, payroll, fundraising, new product development and other things -- are writing blogs is pretty interesting.

Mobile Research's David Adams -- who started his MobileStartup.com blog in February -- had some pretty interesting insights on the benefits of blogging.

"It gives me a reason to be introspective about the company, away from the operations of the company," said Adams, who usually blogs on the weekends or while getting his coffee before work. "One of my experiences as an entrepreneur is that it is really easy to get bogged down in the machinations of running the business. This is a way to really get it back up to 30,000 feet and look at it from outside and see what we are doing and what is going on."
