WAR This Weekend!

If you're one of the unfortunate few who missed out on a stellar UFC 84 this past weekend (shame on you!), you still have a chance to catch some awesome MMA action. Both the Elite XC and the WEC are preparing for their biggest events in their respective histories. Here's what you can expect.

Elite XC kicks off this weekend with its first ever Saturday Night Fights Live. Beginning at 9 o'clock, viewers around the country will be able to tune in to their local CBS channel and see what could be a milestone in the sport. This is just the second time that MMA will be seen on live broadcast television. To take advantage of the potential mass viewership, Elite XC is pulling out their biggest guns. The card features internet street fighting phenom turned mixed martial artist Kimbo Slice, taking on the veteran James "The Colossus" Thompson. Slice is the promotion's biggest star, but has been relatively untested so far in his career. While Thompson does have experience on his side, his glass jaw and reckless style should make him an easy target for another Kimbo KO. The event also features MMA's biggest female star Gina Carano, taking on Kaitlin Young. At the risk of sounding chauvinistic, there is nothing better than watching two attractive females fighting. It's even better, when the two females are as highly skilled and talented as both Carano and Young. Elite XC's middleweight title is also on the line, as knockout artist "Ruthless" Robbie Lawler looks to defend his belt against fellow heavy hitter Scott "Hands of Steel" Smith. Both fighters are known for their big power and viewers will practically be guaranteed an exciting knockout (most likely delivered by Lawler).

On Sunday night, the WEC will attempt to upstage the MMA world, with their own stellar card on the Versus network. While Zuffa's "other" organization (Zuffa owns both the UFC and the WEC) doesn't have cool names for their events like "Ill Will" or "Fury" this event promises to deliver plenty of action. The headline bout features the red hot Urijah Faber, looking to defend his featherweight title against former UFC champion Jens Pulver. Faber has been the longtime king of the featherweights, but he faces his biggest test yet in the rejuvenated Maple Valley, Washington native Pulver. While both fighters may be small in stature, each possess big time power and have a history of putting on exciting performances. Expect a fight pace like you've never witnessed before, until Pulver finally lands his trademark big left hand, to knock out the "California Kid." Bantamweight (135 lbs. and under) champion Miguel Torres looks to make his first title defense the same night, as he takes on Japanese standout Yoshiro Maeda. While Torres may not be well known, his freakish length, super slick ground game and overall skills are remarkable. Look for him to submit Maeda sometime in round two.

The best part of this entire weekend is.....it's completely, totally, 100% FREE! So unless you are super cool (like Affliction t-shirt wearing cool) and have already made plans for both weekend nights, you have no excuse NOT to watch and enjoy.

You don't sound chauvinistic.

Fetishistic, yes.

But not chauvinistic.

Miguel Torres is crazy good - incredible BJJ. I'm glad he's getting more and more recognition.

You have a prediction for the Carano vs. Young fight?

And do you think Ferguson deserves to headline this card when there are other very good fighters (Diaz, Shields, Lawler) on this card? Plus, there is a belt on the line that night as well! Do you think Lawler should be bothered by this?

^I don't know much about Kaitling Young, so my prediction would be just a guess. Just for kicks, I'll say Carano by KO. Fyi, I don't think Kimbo deserves to headline based on his experience, but money talks and he is the most well known person. The situation is kind of similiar to when Brock Lesnar debuted for the UFC. Btw, Diaz and Shields are not fighting this weekend.

I felt like I was watching a 3-hour long rap video last night...
