According to KOCO-TV, the recently acquired NBA franchise in Oklahoma City has a new nickname -- The Oklahoma City Thunder.
The team is currently in the relocation process, after settling with the city of Seattle earlier this month. In exchange for the team being allowed to move, the owners agreed to pay the city $45M to buy-out the two remaining years on the lease.
As part of the agreement, the team had to come up with a new nickname.
Fans in Oklahoma City were asked to participate in the selection process by voting in an NCAA bracket-style elimination contest, starting with 64 possibilities. In the end, they chose the name Thunder over the Outlaws.
Other finalists for the new team name included: the Men-Possessed, the Hijackers, the Bold-Faced Liars, and my personal favorite -- the OKC Corrupt Circumstances.
Oklahoma City becomes the 14th professional basketball team to adopt a mascot with a singular nickname --10 of those teams reside in the WNBA (congratulations).
I can just picture opening night: the Thunder Rolls is blaring over the loudspeakers. Oklahoma native Garth Brooks is on the jumbotron pumping up the crowd. His wife, Singer Trisha Yearwood, is seated next to him, wearing a Russell Westbrook jersey and eating a pulled pork sandwich...
Ladies and gentlemen, your Oklahoma City Thunder.
(I'm not bitter at all.)
On to some good news:
Kevin Calabro will be the voice of the Seattle Sounders FC.
Calabro is my journalistic idol, as well as a member of my dream golf foursome.
I have never been a soccer fan except for to watch some World Cup here and there. Since the loss of the Sonics, I have given a lot of thought as to whether I should jump on the Sounders bandwagon (yes, I know they play during a different time of year, I just need a new team to follow).
The announcement of Calabro's involvement pushes me one step closer to hopping on-board.
Now, if they only had $1 PBR night...

I heard the Oklahoma City fans are so passionate that they stand from the start of the game until the home team scores...Wow...that's unprecedented! What a basketball hotbed. Just for the record, I've been standing ever since the Sonics were stolen, and I'm not sitting until we get them back.

Wow, Seatle is the poster child on What and How not to keep a BB team. Also, with the multiple stunts your group pulled - I would not hold your breath waiting for another ownership group (plus it appears Stern is NOT your biggest fan) to come in.
Posted by unregistered user at 7/22/08 12:09 a.m.
Geez Captain Obvious - I can't believe the Sonics are going to OKC. I never saw this coming. Well, at least David Stern still likes and respects us - he will work real hard to get us another team real soon.

It's unfortunate that after I googled "OKC Thunder", your pitiful little whine-bag story was the first link. You my man are one pathetic soul. What a sad life you live that it all comes crashing down when a professional sport leave Seattle. Do us all a favor Jerry Maguire. When you write another article, sleep on it, then read it again before you send it out. You are sad.
Posted by unregistered user at 7/22/08 7:20 a.m.
Bunch of whiners, I guess I would be too if I lived in the City of rain and gloom! 145 fans on average watched the Sonics last year, and when there's word they are gone..BOOM..you want them. Too bad. Should have gotten off the couch and went to Key Arena to watch these guys. Don't worry. We'll take care of 'em. They are ours. I am a journalist, and this article is about the worst I've ever read. What a homer and idiot!
Posted by unregistered user at 7/22/08 8:41 a.m.
Thunder is the worst name I have ever heard! It sounds like a D-league team, oh wait, thats about how good your team will be next year! We'll see how many of you guys show up for the last 20 games when your about a million games out of playoff contention. How long do you think Durant will stick around OKC? Espcially with a dumb name like thunder on his jersey. He'll bolt as soon as his contract is up.
Posted by NDEW31 at 7/22/08 10:25 a.m.
So when is Big Country coming out of retirement?
Posted by unregistered user at 7/22/08 10:52 a.m.
Oh yes Seattle is the City of rain-that is why it is called The Emerald City, full of people with above average income-brains and yes above you Okies--sure the players are mighty unhappy going to the Dust Bowel(oh excuse my spelling!) I wonder how long they will last there--Thunder--oh wow how clever. And please don't spit on the playing floor we want to protect the players-

You are already one of the most depressing cities in the world, don't throw in bitterness as well

Well keep crying. We now have an NBA team and you all don't.

Would you like the name Oklahoma Death March? (Trail Of Tears)This would honor and pay tribute to the rich who own all the prime real estate where the Native Americans and their families were forced to leave, murdered, massacred with whole Tribes of people almost wiped off the face of the earth. Whole families forced to march by foot for hundreds of miles with many dying alone the way. You and your ancestors are a great bunch of ??? (People)

[smirk]Thunder is a great name.[snicker]Don't you dare change it.[snort]It's a totally grown-up name for an NBA team.[giggle]If anyone makes fun of you, it's because they are jealous.[tee hee]

Wow, the man who posted the comment 7/22/08 10:10 a.m. is so far beyond tiny OKC brain. Is that Officer Farva from Super Troopers? "Darn, I lost a bet... to myself!" Good one! You burned us. What a douche. Clearly a sophisticate. Seattle needs to get over itself. "Wonder how long Durant will stay there." You're an idiot too. You do realize he went to college in Texas right? You do realize that Chris Paul and Tyson Chandler used to live in OKC and Chris Paul loved it? In fact, the Hornets organization tried like crazy to stay in OKC. I'm sure Durant will stay in OKC just like KG stayed in Minnesota for years, Karl Malone stayed in Utah, James lives in Cleveland, and I don't know like Durant did in Seattle. Do you honestly think Seattle is that great? Cause it's not. I've been there. Please don't be dilusional enough to put yourself in the same league as Chicago or New York. Did it ever occur to you that if you don't want the team to relocate you probably shouldn't sell the team to an ownership group from a city vocal about getting a franchise? For all the intelligence you Seattle people claim to have that wasn't very well thought out. How did you let us simple minded Okies outsmart you on that one?
Posted by Crimson Edgar at 7/22/08 11:50 a.m.
From NASA data, "Some of the most violent thunderstorms in the world are found in the part of the central US known as Tornado Alley, where storms with large hail, destructive winds and tornados strike every year."
True, most any place could name a team Thunder, but in Ok. it isn't that sweet gentle sound off in the distance, rather window rattling boomers that set off car alarms and will wake you from a stupor thinking the Russians are coming. Geographically set where massive cold and warm fronts collide, the state has very interesting weather events. It'll gain great acceptance I would think the first home game in the spring when a explosive boomer shakes the Ford Center.
Not my first choice. Would have preferred a native moniker-Thunderbirds, but at least it's not a big dumb cowboy name like they usually go with.
Indian Territory was the destination for the brutal relocation of the Trail of Tears da.
Posted by unregistered user at 7/22/08 12:10 p.m.
To Edinark: Let me check one second... yep, you just described ALL 50 STATES! You do realize that Native Americans were in every single state, including Washington, before Europeans showed up and eventual Americans took their land? Sure, Oklahoma has a much richer Indian history than most states considering we were once named Indian Territory, we were the destination of the Trail of Tears, etc. This is why I favored the nickname the Stampede (for our buffalo) or The Tribe. But considering we have harsher storms than pretty much anyone else, and are the best meteorology state and home of the National Weather Service, I suppose Thunder isn't too bad. You think it sounds stupid now, but is it any dumber than the Pistons, Lakers, Jazz, Heat, Magic, Warriors, Spurs, Mavericks, Nets, Wizards, Kings, or Hornets? Really?
Posted by unregistered user at 7/22/08 12:28 p.m.
What are a bunch of redneck, homophodic (which is funny, what with clay clay's man crush on Stern), carpetbagging okc douches doing on a SEATTLE newspapers website? Tell clay clay he's lucky this wasn't a hundred years ago, 'cause if he'd tried this stunt then, we'd have tar and feathered him, and ran him out of town on a rail. Bunch of frakking trolls!
Posted by unregistered user at 7/22/08 1:15 p.m.
I wasn't really happy when I heard Thunder was the choice over some other great names, but honestly it fits Oklahoma perfectly, in fact one of my suggestions was the Tornados, but Thunder covers multiple weather conditions which is what we get here. I'm not going to say anything bad about Seattle because I've never been there, but honestly if someone said what do you know about the great Seattle? I'd answer with "Frasier", because that's all you have outside of Seattle. No one knows you guys anymore than they know us in Oklahoma City. But now they will know us, get used to it, grow up. Next time IF there is a next time, try to not have the lowest game attendance in the league if you really want a team so bad. You brought it on yourself, and your owners just want money, they do not care about you or your team. You should be griping at them, not us. This is politics, not sports.
Posted by unregistered user at 7/22/08 1:21 p.m.
lol, Emerald City; you talk like that's a shining endorsement. News flash, the Emerald Coast is the nasty beach front areas in the Florida panhandle, also known as Redneck Riviera.
Speaking of stolen items, you stole your unimaginitive name (in the Evergreen state) from a leftist political satire and is a place the munchkins lived. Enjoy!
Posted by unregistered user at 7/22/08 2:02 p.m.
Haha, you should be happy for us--we never had a professional team of any kind while you still have the Seahawks. At least look on the bright side--you still get to keep the colors, logo and name for the possibility of restarting a new NBA franchise...
The Seattle Sorry-Losers perhaps?
Posted by unregistered user at 7/22/08 2:15 p.m.
Seattle was actually predominately a top 10 franchise in terms of attendance. Perhaps you could look at home attendance beyone last season. The fans had absolutely nothing to do with this debacle.
I hope, for your sake, Clay never sells the team, cause you could very easily be in our shoes 10 years from now. It's frustrating having a team ripped away from you when there's nothing you can do to stop it.
Enjoy your NBA.
Posted by Chris In Renton at 7/22/08 2:17 p.m.
...and is a place the munchkins lived.
Munchkins don't live in the Emerald City. Munchkins come from Munchkin Country which is west of the Emerald City.
Get you facts straight, Tom Joad.

Posted by OKCHawk at 7/22/08 4:22 p.m.
The Seattle Sounders? Come on folks, you gotta be kidding. While I lived many years in Seattle (actually Woodinville), most people outside of the rainy gloomy NW have no idea what a 'Sounder' is. Now go hug a tree or something.
Posted by NDEW31 at 7/22/08 4:34 p.m.
First, let me say that I have no problem with the people of OKC. It isn't your fault that you inherited an NBA team under these circumstances, but you've got to understand that last years attendance would not have made a difference as to whether the team stayed or not. The team was dismantled intentionally so that we had an unrecognizable squad of new members and throw-away players. This was premeditated and executed worse than the Indians owners did in Major League. Just be warned: This can happen to you too. Boycott Starbucks. This is Howard's fault.
Posted by Im sick of this at 7/23/08 12:26 a.m.
Oh Okies... So having our team makes you better than us, well, we still do have the Seahawks, and the Mariners as well as a World-Class university, and a software company you might have heard of, (do you have computers in Oklahoma City)? Let's see, we had a world's fair, won both an NBA and a WNBA title , have won NCAA football titles and in the last year have played host for at least three NObel Prize winners (that I have personally gone to see speak) So what is it that you have over us again, oh yes, that "rain stereotype" and our former basketball team, well, enjoy it while it lasts, it wont...
Posted by unregistered user at 7/23/08 9:11 a.m.
they should've been the oklahoma city outlaws
Posted by unregistered user at 7/23/08 5:17 p.m.
OKC Thunder...I've been there and I think the name fits. However, I think that Clay Bennett is a liar and a thief, and honestly, did any of us really believe he was going to keep the team here? I didn't. And the NBA playing along with the heist is what really surprises me. But hey, OKC does have 16K people signed up for season tickets and it looks like they will play the part of excited new fans of their first pro team. I could see them being successful there, honestly. But if I was new Thunder fan I would never trust this ownership group and what it did to get a team out of town from its' endearing fans should cause them a moment of pause. I'm not saying he's going to do that to his hometown, but I'm glad Clay Bennett is out of our town...unfortunately, the Sonics were euthanized in the process. The fans of this town, the greater Puget Sound area and beyond were undeservedly cast aside after 41 seasons. So show some respect OKC. Oklahoma City has a lot of midwestern charm. It really does. It's got good, hard working people some of whom in all their glib excitement have misrepresented some facts. As was shared previously, Seattle was presented a team that gutted its roster last season, and started two rookies. They weren't going to make the playoffs. In fact, they finished with their worst record ever. And Clay Bennett even said he was moving the team as the 2007-08 season was beginning to start. People are supposed to get charged up for that? C'mon OKC fans, get real. People don't like to get messed with. If your wife sleeps with another guy, do you invite the other guy over for dinner night after night hoping it will win your wife back because your "cool with the situation". Seattle fans have sour attitudes because they were made to deal with something they had no control over. No matter what the record last year, no matter if the Sonics had made the Finals and packed the Key every night...Clay Bennett was moving the team. Have a little class OKC fans. Seattle is much more than its' loud discontented fans. We deserved better than what we were shown and you want us to get over it. After 41 years, try again...
Posted by unregistered user at 7/23/08 7:26 p.m.
The 64-team bracket was put together by The Oklahoman, the local newspaper. It was not a team-sanctioned contest, and it was far from official. The fact that "Thunder" won only means it was the fans' favorite. Winning that online contest doesn't mean "Thunder" will automatically be the teams' nickname.
Posted by unregistered user at 7/23/08 11:25 p.m.
I find these ridiculous comments about the beautiful city of Seattle very insulting, and frankly, they have nothing at all to do with the story at hand. The story above was entertaining, but I'm glad the Sonics are gone. They complained over and over about what a "sad state" their arena is in. Well, here's a news flash. If they had started winning games, then maybe, just maybe, the people of Seattle (or Washington State) would have been willing to pay for the upgrading of Key Arena (as we have paid for both Safeco Field-home to the current worst team in baseball)and Qwest Field (home to the Seahawks).
I like the name "Oklahoma City Thunder". I think it sounds cool. I was thinking they would have put something stupid, like those suggestions above.
Oh, and by the way... for those of you who seemingly live under a rock and think that it rains 365 days a year in Seattle, I can tell you that it has not rained here since at least the end of June.
I'd rather be in Seattle than in Oklahoma City any day.You complain about our beaches, but at least we have them.
Posted by unregistered user at 7/23/08 11:35 p.m.
Seriously, the Thunder...really?!. That is what the fans have chosen? You okies realize that this is a major professional league, right? It isn't arena football, or the WNBA, it's the NBA. I know you are not used to having anything major happening in your dusty town other than them really swell thunder storms, a tornado or two, a hoedown, and a biracial marriage to really shake things up, but this was your chance to really prove that you aren't slack jawed yokels for living in that ahole you call "the City". That was the best our nations lowest common denominators could come up with, after all this time. Truly pathetic. Hook 'em Horns!!!!!

WHAT A BUNCH OF WINNERS IN OKC! All of these bloggers from OKC must envy Seattle so much that they check our websites. They act as if they've bought the team themselves. Half of them can't spell, with spell check, are all using dial-up, have only a population of 100, all related, each of them has no more than 4 teeth, and considered graduated after grade 6. They need this basketball team to make the city significant. It is the only thing that will distract the men there from going to bars and hitting on their own sisters or hanging around farm animals (if you know what i mean).

Okay, as a totally neutral position as a Denver Nugget fan, I gotta say Congrats to the Oklahoma City. You guys were class acts in hosting the Hornets and will be a MUCH better city for the (now) Thunder. The Seatle fans didn't support their team the entire season, sure SOME great loyal fans showed up, but Key Areana was trash and no one cared.
Kevin Durant will stay, he's a class act.
This article was trash. Pure garbage from a bitter "FAN" Why can't you just calm down and WAIT for a team to come back to Seattle so you all can run them into the ground and out of Seatle. Congrats to a class city for getting a team well deserved of them.
And good luck next year in the division

The thought of the Oklahome City Thunder grosses me out. I'm going to have a hard time watching their games and even seem then on the ESPN ticker. Can they block that in the greater Seattle area? I was going to dress as David Stern for Holloween but I may get beat down

Are you serious??? Oklahomans were hard working people trying to catch a break. The whole country voted to move the Indians to Oklahoma, not okies. This is a joke. Business is what this country was founded on and this is just business, don't be upset cost of living and high gas kept people from going to games. oklahoma will fill that stadium all season, just like it did for the Hornets, who wasn't even our team. And for this comment go lobby and get all racist mascots eliminated from college and professional teams instead of posting lame comments.

Posted by unregistered user at 7/29/08 4:50 a.m.
why don't you have a name like the tornadoes? you are in oklahoma!! the name at least shows power and destruction. the people of ok should know we have had our fair share plus the movie twister was made in north west ok. why give a new team a sissy name. you want something strong that will grab you by the *****. thunder and bison are good but not good enough. lightening comes before thunder then comes the tornado. bison- it is a buffalo if you are from ok. people from montana and wyoming say bison. remember where you are!!! have you ever been in your closet with the tornado closing in? i have more than once. have seen them up close and personal. this is what ok is known for. i have worked in alaska for the past six years. most often asked question "have you seen/been in a tornado?" seattle is a beautiful city and if okc wants to make money on this team they will need a name that stands for oklahoma. SOONERS!!! GET A GRIP!! thunder is everywhere. originality because i am sure money is what is most important to the team. after all where else can you work(play) for that kind of money? i can't busting my a**. let the players make what most people in ok make. you won't have to worry about a name. making min wage or a little more drugs might be on the decline!!!! #154770 you are a**hole. all people from ok are not kin are not stupid and do know how to use the spell check. your comments just shows your ignorance. we have the #1 medical schools in the nation. you should study some history before making judgements. most of the people from ok are indians we know how to take care of the stupid. scalping is eye opening!! don't be a sore loser. if i am correct washington doesn't have a national college team. again try history. take a look at OU BOOMER SOONERS!!!!! think before you incert foot. i hope OUR new team does well and the players feel at home.

Unfortunately, I am embarrassed to be from Seattle. I have lived in OKC now for two years and have seen Washingtonians deface themselves over this situation. When it comes down to it, everyone in the NW is trying to make up for lost time. You didn't support the team, so what did you expect? Also, if you haven't traveled to Oklahoma then don't act like you have an opinion, because Oklahoma is a beautiful state with very loyal fans... unlike when I lived in the Northwest.
Take it for what it's worth Seattle. Get over it because you're embarrassing yourselves even more by name calling and boasting about which city has who and what. No wonder our country is falling apart if we can't show support a few states away.

But at least I will have season tickets. : ) thanks Howard

I lived in Seattle for 25 yrs. For what I can say is that growing up I loved the sonics and and can agree that seattle has a weak unfaithful fanbase. We did nothing about the problem till they were good and gone and sat around and bithced! like the passive aggresive people we are! We need to learn and be supportive for our other teams. As for the nasty Seattle comments about how stupid, rainy, ugly etc.. our city is. Seattle is beautiful and one of the most liveable cities in america. Everyone ends up moving to Seattle for it's beauty and way of life. I live in Honolulu and miss Seattle everyday. I traveled to okc for a hvac convention (air conditioning). Great people! Ugly city! I had more fun in the seminar than touring that place. Dont you dare rip Seattle. I can go on and on about that hell hole! Dont get me started. When I first heard about the sale of the sonics to a group in okc the first thing that came to mind was Timothy McVey. Sorry but that's what comes to mind.
Posted by unregistered user at 8/10/08 1:23 a.m.
This is just a basketball team. Get over it people. Teams sell and move all the time! I think it's a pride issue with Seattle as they want to be higher up on the "sophisticated, classier city" scale and it bothers them that the team is going to OKC. Since OKC has long had the negative stereotype of being dirty, ugly, dusty... OKC has a very strong economy/housing market, Seattle may have a well-known software company, but we have a well known substance called oil. Either way both cities are doing well and the loss of a basketball team doesn't hurt Seattle's image. OKC is not dirty or dusty, and once most people actually see it are pleasantly surprised. Check out the NY times article on OKC! I think Seattle set themselves up to obtain another franchise in the near future and the Sonics will live again. So I view this as a win/win situation, OKC gets a team and Seattle gets cash to pay off the Key Arena debt and move forward with building a better arena... and getting a team again.
Posted by unregistered user at 8/11/08 1:37 p.m.
Yeah don't trust the ownership group that has it's own zipcode in our city, I'm sure they'll be leaving right when they complete the new city in 2014.

Wow, I have heard complaining from both sides of the fence. I do live in Oklahoma and if I had a choice I would be in somewhere in Washington. Personally I could care less about basketball, but the way Oklahoma got the team is screwed up. In saying that you had to see it coming when Oklahoma buisnessmen bought the team. It really seems that most of the people posting here need to grow up and relax. Seattle people I do hope you get another team and I am glad to see a professional sport finally come to Oklahoma. Oh by the way the people saying bad things about both cities have most likely never been to either one so that makes both people foolish and petty.

Hokie Okies
Thanks for trading Luke Ridnour he was the only reason I paid any attention to the NBA at all. Now at least he is with a much better team and area.
Cowboys maybe you can steal a football and baseball team from some other city.
The only reason Texas doesn't fall into the gulf is that Oklahoma sucks.

To the people of Seattle. I am very sorry that you have had the Sonics taken from you. Its not fair at all, agreed. Just understand that not all people in OK are as greedy as Clay. I truly enjoy Seattle and think its a great city. I just don't think the actions of one man should be something that is generalized among the whole state. We aren't all rednecks, and even if some of us are where is there harm in that? Diversity is what makes our Country great. So lets not make this a civil war.

OK. I am tired of hearing all of seattle whine about losing your precious basketball team. If you really cared about it, you would have shown up to games and shown your support. You did not. Oklahoma was given a chance to prove itself as a stage for the NBA, and did so with flying colors. The people of Oklahoma are so excited to have a National level team (of any sort) for the very first time, and you should be happy for them.

I am a long time fan of the Sonics.I am very disappointed that we lost our team,I am not going to cry about it.I wish them success in Oklahoma.I place my blame to Howard Schultz,he should of never sold the team.Clay Bennett did what he had to do,and I don't blame him.I hope that the fans there rides them through the good times and the bad.OKC enjoy your new team.

"Don't Know What You Got Till Its Gone" by Cinderella plays softly in the background........
Ok.... first and foremost on my mind are all these morons in the great Northwest that think they were hoodwinked...... YOU WEREN"T..... Mr.Starbucks knew along time ago he wanted to sell your beloved team..... he didnt care about you, your team, or anything but unloading a dead franchise and getting a little bank in his pocket in the hopes he could recoup some losses...... After he sold and Mr. Bennett attempted to move..... He freaked because he knew their would be a backlash..... Here is an analogy.... If I had a car, and it was the only mode of transportation for a group of people..... but the car stunk, broke down alot, and nobody ever paid me any money for gas or repairs.... well one day a guy says "Hey sell me that POS" HE SELLS IT!!!! no questions asked..... then when the group of people all start complaining that they have to walk everywhere.... then of course he is going to say...... "That guy said even though he was buying the car and he lives in another state he is still going to stick around and give us rides when we feel like it" NO!!!! He was stupid and you are stupid to believe that happened..... Seattle...you sat by and did nothing when it mattered so shut your trap..... go watch some MLS, and remember....everyone in Oklahoma thanks you. GO THUNDER.....!!!!!

If I were one of the Seattle Sonics, I would NOT be proud to be playing for okieville, especially having to wear jerseys with an UGLY logo that a kindergarten probably came up with. I bet the rest of the NBA franchise and players are laughing their as----- off and feeling sorry for the Seattle Sonics at the same time. What's with the "sunset"? Okieville...this is the NBA, NOT the WNBA! I feel so SORRY for the Seattle Sonics. First of all, they're now stuck in Okieville (one of the top fattest, most obese states) where it's dead on the weekends and feels and looks like a ghost town after 6PM. There are no places worth spending time and money at, unless you drive about two hours away or so to Dallas, or just have to fly to a real big city, like New York, L.A., Chicago, Paris, etc. Tulsa does not count, it's a big yawn as well. There are never stories worth mentioning in the media. Any media stories worth viewing or listening to are news from out of state cities. Any okie "celebrity" news or any mention of oklahoma city in nationwide news are over hyped and over played by the media. I feel so SORRY for the Seattle Sonics for being bought out from the beautiful Emerald city by okies in a city that smells like sewer. Yes! Anywhere you go in the state of oklahoma, it smells like SEWER! Other than being booooooooring, it's only a great place to live in if you like living a very, very, very monotonous life. Okieville and it's surrounding cities such as Edmond, are one of those places that like to "keep up with the Joneses". I mean, they have the money (probably okies' tax money) to purchase a NBA team just so they can label their city "big city", but they do NOT have the money to clean up all kinds of trash that make the whole city and it's surrounding city look so ghetto, repair horrible roads full of holes, go business to business making hundreds of thousands to millions by employing illegals so they can be deported, sidewalks and bike trails in every neighborhood so people will exercise and not be grossly obessed, and the list goes on. I guess that shows you what their priorities are.

The Oklahoma City Thunder is not all that bad. I thought they should've picked the Oklahoma City Dunkadelics. The team and the city can play off the Thunder name and be also known as the Thunder City Dunkadelics for fans as alternate nickname like other teams (Detroit Badboys, LA Lakers Showtime). They need a couple of hi-flyers who can get out on the fast-break and make the highlight reels for ESPN.

I hope this is not all grown ups posting on this blog. It's over and everyone just needs to move on. There are other important things in life then a silly basketball team.
