They're calling it a "typo," but faces are turning red out in upstate New York where absentee ballots from Rensselaer County were just sent out with the name "Barack Osama" on the Democratic ticket.
Seriously. pdf of the Rensselaer County absentee ballot from our friends at the Albany Times Union. (FYI, Rensselaer County is in the Albany, New York state's capital, metro area.)
Our colleagues at the Albany Times Union uncovered the mistake this afternoon. Reporter Bob Gardinier writes:
The misspelling, which elections officials on both sides of the aisle insist was simply a typo, is causing embarrassment for the county.
"No question this is an honest mistake innocently done," said Edward McDonough, the Democratic commissioner. "We catch almost everything."
"This was a typo," said Republican Commissioner Larry Bugbee. "We have three different staff members who proof these things and somehow the typo got by us."
That's right, three different staff members to proof copy on one ballot.

If three people were proofing these ballots and no one caught this, especially with all of the controversy going on, they need to be fired. It takes more concetration to flip burgers than proof reading a ballot and you can't even do that right. Ha ha funny, we got the joke. Has this country really come to this type of disrespect and insult? Im embarassed that other countries are going to hear about this, they probably think everyone in the US is crazy!
