Let's go back in time.

To celebrate its tenth anniversary, Google has released its oldest available index - a version of its search engine that brings up the same results you would have gotten if you looked for them in 2001.
Searches for Amanda Knox, Sanjaya Malakar and Project Runway came up empty. Darn. But here's what turned up when I typed in some other popular Seattle searches into that simple white box. In 2001 ...
Seattle Supersonics
... typing "sonics.com" into your browser did not take you to the home page of the Oklahoma City Thunder, but to a team that had just brought green and gold on its uniforms.
Bill Gates
... Microsoft's founder was worth $72.556200 billion, if you believe this Personal Wealth Clock. Today he's down to $58 billion, and a Mexican investor is the richest man in the world.
Greg Nickels
... the mayor some call Hizzoner was a 22-year King County Council member representing West Seattle, White Center, Burien and Vashon Island.
Christine Gregoire
... our governor was in her third term as the 16th state attorney general, the first female to be elected to the position. She also had darker hair.
Dino Rossi
... the Republican candidate for governor was a state senator -- and looked exactly the same.
Alaskan Way Viaduct
... the government was studying the Viaduct to see how it could be fixed. Seven years later, still wondering.
Proposition 1
... Prop 1 was a voter initiative for nuclear disarmament
Boeing
... our local aerospace giant was celebrating the flight of a next-generation 737 in the Persian Gulf.

I also used to subscribe to the notion that real Seattleites don't use umbrellas, but then I decided that I'd rather be dry than a real Seattleite"
