Beginning this month, your cell phone is your art guide.

The public corporation 4Culture has launched an audio cell phone tour of public artwork in Seattle's downtown corridor.
Cell phone users can hear about 21 pieces of art from Pike Street to Pioneer Square -- everything from George Tsutakawa's "Sandworm" at the King County administration building to Guy Anderson's "Sisyphus," which hangs on the fourth floor of the Washington State Convention Center.
The tour costs as much as a cell phone call. You stand in front of a piece marked with a "Listen 4Culture" sign, call 206-296-4848, punch in a three-digit code indicating where you are and listen. That's it.
Each audio description discusses the history, meaning and making of the pieces, sometimes in the artist's own voice. The segments are also available online.
See a map of the public art featured in the tour here.

4culture.org is a very nice site. thanks, monica!
(my current phone plan prohibits me from partaking in the full experience, so i like the online component, which allows access to the rest of us.)
