Yahoo 'Bridget McCain' and what do you get?

"McCain's campaign crumbles," begins the headline of the most read story/blog post on seattlepi.com during the past hour -- but it's not what you think.

The full headline is "McCain's campaign crumbles; Is Giuliani next?" And yes, it was published on our Strange Bedfellows blog in July 2007. Back then, as politics editor Chris Grygiel wrote at the time, the senator from Arizona was "down and nearly out" in his bid for the White House.

Clearly, times change. (If you're reading this archived post some day in the remote future, McCain formally accepted the Republican party's nomination last night as its presidential candidate for 2008.)

So, why is an old, outdated blog post so popular? Looks like a "false positive" result for Yahoo! image searches for "Bridget McCain," the senator's adopted daughter.

BudbillOne of the "matches" is for a small photo of Bridget Budbill, who used to write a blog for us called "News Feed: Politics, Satire & Sass" -- which once appeared on the same page as that blog post. Budbill's photo had nothing to do with the actual post; it was just part of the standard template we used then for all pages on Strange Bedfellows.

Interesting headline, but this was an utter waste of my time to read. I will have to stop reading these PI blog entries.

Hey, wait a second. Is this from the same idiot who wrote about the sexy white women pushing products at Bumbershoot?

Oops, my bad. No, it's not from the Bumbershoot poster.

In the 2000 Republican party race in North/South (I can't recall which one exactly)Carolina between McCain and Bush, a Bush/Rove Republican operative named Tucker Bounds started a rumor that McCain was the father of an illegitimate black girl. You see McCain had adopted a dark skinned girl from an orphanage in India. It was a scurrilous thing to do and John and Cindy McCain were very angry about this dirty trick.

This year, Tucker Bounds, the guy who started that rumor is employed as a spokesman for the McCain campaign.

The John McCain of 2008 is not the maverick McCain of 2000. Indeed his campaign is being run by Rove proteges and powerful DC lobbyists. McCain has sold his soul to the dirty tricksters of teh Republican party. They have shown over the last eight years that they are unfit to govern and have nothing positive to offer the country. So, now they have nominated a hard right religious wacko for vice-president and the culture wars are back! Bring on the racism! If they would do that to McCain think of what they will do to a black Democrat.

From Newsweek:

Key Alaska allies of John McCain are trying to derail a politically charged investigation into Gov. Sarah Palin's firing of her public safety commissioner in order to prevent a so-called "October surprise" that would produce embarrassing information about the vice presidential candidate on the eve of the election.

In a move endorsed by the McCain campaign Friday, John Coghill, the GOP chairman of the state House Rules Committee, wrote a letter seeking a meeting of Alaska's bipartisan Legislative Council in order to remove the Democratic state senator in charge of the so-called "troopergate" investigation. [...]

[Hollis] French, the Democrat overseeing the probe, has hired a special counsel to determine, in effect, whether Palin "used her public office to settle a private score," he recently said. He has also suggested that the probe may turn up evidence that state laws were violated by Palin's aides because they pulled confidential personnel files on the trooper.

But Coghill, who told NEWSWEEK that he has the backing of Republican Speaker of the House John Harris in his effort to remove French, suggested Friday that the investigation into Palin's firing of Monegan should be shut down entirely.

Why don't you read the entire post-especially the last paragraph.

Also read the Slog, The Stranger's blag and you will see the blog that this tries to emulate, although in less juvenile and profane matter. The Slog, by the way, emulates the online magazine Vice.

Well, "u.r. 176136", see, ya gotta understand...the P-I serves typically as a magnificent form of comic relief, as do most leftist rags, and--being barely a step up from the National Inquirer--the P-I publishes or blogs anything that could show partiality to the Demoncrat Party, of which they are bought-n-sold.

It's tough to be a "balanced" (or not unhinged, mind you) news agency, when one's frothing at the mouth over gains made by the thinking/working classes that will put McCain-Palin in the White House in just a few short months.

Um, RedAsh? If you really think you are a member of the "thinking class" you might want to take another stab at that sentence. Particularly the part in bold.

If you can find the problem and correct it, I'll give you a cookie.
