Seattle musician Joe Shikany was killed Monday in a freak accident at a lake near Spokane.
According to Spokane's KHQ-TV, the singer, guitarist and bassist had been attending a family reunion at a house on Lake Sacheen and was trying to secure a dock during a storm when a tree fell on him. He died later at a local hospital.

Shikany, a Spokane native, had an impressive resume. He played in a number of bands, among them Magic Bus, Sex and Violins, PowerCell, N'Sane, the Davanos and Spike and the Impalers. Shikany also toured with rocker Paul Rodgers, the singer for Bad Company, Free and a reunited Queen.
In 1992, Shikany, Steve Hannah and Lynn Sorensen founded Magic Bus, a classic-rock cover band playing songs of the '60s, '70s and '80s -- by Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Led Zeppelin, The Doors, the Rolling Stones and other iconic bands. Magic Bus played at clubs, casinos, festivals and biker rallies.
In the late '70s, Shikany became a member of Bighorn, one of Seattle's most popular rock bands of the era. The powerful, guitar-heavy band opened for Van Halen, Boston, Journey and the J. Geils Band, but never took off nationally. Bighorn later evolved into Seattle new-wave band The Allies.
Shikany will be sorely missed by members of Seattle's classic-rock community.
Friends and fellow musicians gathered last night at Lake City's Rimrock Steakhouse, a popular hangout for local musicians.

I also used to subscribe to the notion that real Seattleites don't use umbrellas, but then I decided that I'd rather be dry than a real Seattleite"
