Seattle 'Dark Knight' audience applauds Heath Ledger

It was a little eerie to watch Heath Ledger on the screen at the Cinerama last night. And not just because he was playing the Joker.

When the rising star died in January of an overdose, the consensus was immediate: He could have done so much more. Some critics say he's assured a posthumous Oscar nod for his chilling performance. But one might not be enough.

The audience clapped when Ledger first appeared in "The Dark Knight." We also applauded when his name appeared in the credits - for the last time (or maybe not - see first comment). More on the movie's opening here.

Will your trip to see "Dark Knight" be in any way in tribute to Ledger?

P.S. Also from last night's screening:

Maddy, Joey and Marie Shaw, all siblings, dressed up and came early for the midnight premiere of "The Dark Knight" at the Cinerama. Joey's been a fan since birth. "Joey wore Batman underwear and tights since he was 3 years old," Maddy said.

I'm looking forward to watching the movie. However, this is NOT the last time his name will be in the credits.

He didn't get to finish his final role, but he WILL be in there, with his performance left unaltered despite him not finishing it. Dark Knight is simply his final full length/completed performance.

While my trip to the movie was not really about seeing Heath Ledger, his performance was nothing short of phenomenal.

"who will replace him as the joker?"

No one, I had my doubts, I didnt think Ledger could top Jack's performance from the tim burton batman. Within the first few minutes of the movie i was sold. He has a sort of cutesy psychotic pull on the audience. I saw the movie twice just for the joker, No one can top this portrayal. My only complaint about the movie, It definitely needed a lot more joker.

Heath Ledger is definetly going to be remember. He was amazing in the Dark Night and showed what an amazing actor he was and is. I will always remember his amazingness and would hope everyone else feels the same way.

how crazy is it that in all his roles his most kick-ass role was one where you never get to see just how beautiful he was and though I loved the movie when I read the " in memory of " I had to take a minute for it all to come back to me that he wasn't ever going to be that kick-ass again. Well done my handsome "knight" well done.

I've read many reviews about Heath Ledger as the Joker in the Dark Knight. But the feelings I have experienced since seeing his peformance is difficult to put into words. Amazing, creepy, astonishing, hypnotic, mesmerizing, your worst nightmare and magnificent are some of the words others have used to describe his work as the Joker. But that voice! That was genius.
