Local execs make '40 under 40' list

Not all executives are old men in designer suits.

Some are young men in designer suits. Or, at least, men under 40. Just under 40.

The executive chairman of Blue Nile, the President and CEO of Cray and the CEOs of Expedia and HouseValues -- all from the Seattle area -- made Corporate Leader magazine's "40 Under 40" list.

Dara Khostowshahi of Expedia in Bellevue is 38; Ian Morris of HouseValues in Kirkland is 39; Peter Ungaro of Cray in Seattle is 39; and Mark Vadon of Blue Nile in Seattle is 38.

Vadon's business was built on love, literally, the magazine writes:

In 1998, soon to propose to his gifrlfriend, (Vadon) strolled into Tiffany's in San Francisco to shop for a ring. He was dressed like a college student and the salespeople, unimpressed, ignored him. Annoyed, he left. Later that day he discovered a Web site caled Internet Diamonds. He bought a ring there -- and a year later, he bought the company. Since then, Blue nile, as he renamed it, has grown to $319 million in sales -- 100 percent online.
