Eddie Vedder featured in anti-war soundtrack

"Body of War," a film that earned the National Board Review's award for best documentary, features some powerful music by Seattle's own Eddie Vedder.

Like the film, Vedder's lead track, "No More," is fiercely anti-war.

Politics aside, the song is deeply moving:

Directed by Ellen Spiro and Phil Donahue, "Body of War" is the story of an injured Iraq War veteran who struggles with a disability and a calling to speak against the Iraq War. Locally, it's gotten mixed reviews.

"Though this is not an easy film to watch, I highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who questions our government's policy in Iraq," wrote Gabrielle LaValle of Lynnwood in a letter to the editor.

Our reviewer gave the film a D. "Of the many propaganda films using the war in Iraq to propagate a personal agenda," wrote Bill White, "I have found none so offensive as Ellen Spiro and Phil Donahue's 'Body of War.'"

See the trailer below. The film is playing at the Metro Cinemas.

Vedder has a brain and whats more, he uses it unlike right wing whackos who love the occupation of Iraq.

Soulmusic, you are a troll. Did Eddie Vedder kick your dog or something, or are you just grumpy?

Here is Eddie Vedder's next album

Bush Sucks
I hate republicans
I hate the rich
Bush is evil
War is never right

Seriously, I'm a big PJ fan and that pretty much sums up the last two pearl jam albums.

Green Disease? Bush Leaguer? World Wide Suicide?

They are all pathetic.

Vedder always was and forever will be Safeway Select to Cornell and Cobain's Coke and Pepsi. When this one trick pony was exposed (Vitology on) he suddenly got political to cover up his average(at best) voice and writing skills. Move back to San Diego!

Isn't it possible to dislike a particular musician's music but also realize that your opinion isn't an absolute truth?

Nobody has to like Eddie Vedder, but there is a reason why he is appreciated by so many people. Some people even have the audacity to respect him, despite not liking Pearl Jam's music.

One might also take notice of all the money Pearl Jam has raised for local organizations and charities over the years. Eddie Vedder's contribution to the city of Seattle has been significant and should be recognized.

Eddie has an amazing voice and is an amazing artist. But his opinion on this matter is no more significant than my neighbor's or co-worker's.

The music is great but I wouldnt buy the book.

A rock voice second only to Cornell's. Listen to TOD's Hunger Strike to hear what I mean. It's his sinus cavity--it resonates, like all good vocalists' do.

Bill White is right; so much BS appears during a presidential election year. Food shortages? High gas prices? All manipulations of markets by people with billions. You know who they are.

This poor soldier--destined to obscurity once the election is over.

When is Eddie going to do a song about children with downs syndrome being used as suicide bombers? Or women being executed as punishment for being a victim of rape? Hell, how about speaking up for middle eastern women forced to wear a potato sack over their bodies their entire life?

dirty kuffar,

Your list could go on forever, which is precisely the fault in your argument. The logical answer is that Eddie, like most people, is likely choosing to write about what he feels most immediately responsible for and what he has some (small) sense of control over. It is certainly worthwhile and noble to rally people around the cause of injustice in other parts of the world, but the fact that one focuses on his own government is no grounds by itself for criticism.

I know the perception is that people like Eddie only complain about the US government, but the assumption that they somehow condone or look the other way on the ills of other countries is simplistic.

As far as women's rights in the middle east, it's not a stretch to say that a change in direction can be pushed by a change in US policy. Recall that our government supports that of Saudi Arabia, where women's rights are virtually non-existent. To go a step further, you can look at the personal relationship of the Bush family with the Saudi royal family. One might make a convincing link between such support and an abundant natural resource found in Saudi Arabia, which happens to be a major factor in the current episode in Iraq......which of course is the subject of Eddie's song.

Eddie Vedder has brain cells left? I'm sure everyone hear has heard an attempted interview with Vedder-- he's almost as unintelligible as an autistic person with Down's Syndrome.

The problem with Eddie Vedder, and most of you liberals, is that the policy you promote has been proven to not work throughout history. Reacting to a nuclear attack instead of preventing a nuclear attack is what you all seem to ge arguing. Do we really need to have one of our cities leveled before you libs finally learn your lesson? The same lesson we've learned half a dozen times throughout history the hard way? Do we really have to go back to the foreign policy of ignorance, that we know doesn't work but seems to make all you libs feel good about yourselves? How many hundreds of thousands must die before you guys finally "get it" that reactionary foreign policy causes the loss of far more innocent life in the long run???

So the movie, like Obama and most of you far-left people, argues that staying out of harms way prevents innocent deaths, and that makes about as much sense as arguing that not putting safety measures in automobiles would save deaths in the long run.

You are quick to criticize Bush, and yet there have been no more attacks on our soil since 9/11 in spite of clear intent by Al Qaeda to do that. And unfortunately, it would appear that we'll need to go back to this "sitting duck" policy that liberals insist on, that makes us the hunted rather than the hunters. Which will indeed equate to more deaths by the tenfold. This is the argument this movie and Eddie Vedder seem to promote, and yet from a historical perspective it make ZERO sense. It would be like arguing that the USA staying out of the conflict in Europe in 1939 would be better for the world, if we just let Hitler run loose. Which is exactly what we did until we were forced out of that position. It might be nice to not do that this time.

Chiapas, the policy of reacting to a nuclear war worked just fine with Stalinist Russia, and those people were far crazier than the islamic fundamentalists have proven to be thus far....

American foreign policy towards "rogue" nations with nuclear warheads should be thus: If a nuclear device is detonated by any terrorist group in Russia, the EU or North America, North Korea and Iran will become sheets of glass. Immediately. No questions asked.

If you think the Chinese will have a fit, you're right. They'll step to and have North Korea under control post haste, and you might find that Iran will tone down their act as well.

Teddy Roosevelt was right... "speak sofly and carry a big stick." It's as wise now as it was then...

I'd like to see PJ reprise the entire Quadrophenia album. Daltrey's voice was so thin and shrill.

"You are quick to criticize Bush, and yet there have been no more attacks on our soil since 9/11 in spite of clear intent by Al Qaeda to do that"

So Bush is responsible for the worst attack on our nation in history, since you are so quick to credit him for no attacks since.

Also, give Bill Clinton credit for no foreign terrorist attacks since the 1993 bombing.

Eddie Vedder to me is the most important singer/songwriter/voice of my generation.
At least he is doing something and standing
up for something.
