The local honors are piling up for Grammy-winning musician, composer and producer Quincy Jones, who grew up in Seattle.

Jones, 75, will speak June 14 at the University of Washington graduation ceremony, where he'll receive an honorary doctorate, The Associated Press reports. University regents voted Thursday to award the degree.

Jones, who toured with Lionel Hampton's band and arranged music for Count Basie, Ray Charles, Duke Ellington and others, is best known for producing Michael Jackson's "Thriller" and the single "We Are the World."

On March 16, the Garfield High School alumnus received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Northwest African American Museum during a tribute concert and 75th birthday celebration at the Paramount Theatre. Carlos Santana, James Ingram, Siedah Garrett and fellow Garfield alum Ernestine Anderson were among the performers at NAAM's grand-opening event.

"Believe it or not," Jones said during the concert, "I played with Ernestine Anderson when I was 14 years old."
