Sanjaya is back! Does anyone care?

I watched "American Idol" for the first time last season -- mostly because it included the Seattle auditions. Unlike you fans, I was paid to do it, because I frankly woudn't have otherwise. So I saw for myself the phenomenon of Sanjaya Malakar that unraveled over the course of the competition and culminated in his long-anticipated elimination.

But who could forget the hair? Who needs the Bardem when we had this?

Now, Sanjaya and his sister, Shyamali, who also auditioned for the show and was frequently seen in the "Idol" audience, are going to be the special guests in a new production, "A Motown Evening," on April 6 at 3 p.m. at the Northshore Performing Arts Center. A cast of special guests including students from the Northshore School District's Student Academy for Success (SAS) Music Project will also perform. Proceeds from this show will benefit the Music Project, which brings professional musicians, such as Bernadette Bascom, into the schools to work with students.

The Northshore Performing Arts Center is at 18125 92nd Ave. N.E. in Bothell, on the edge of the Bothell High School campus.

Tickets are available online through the Northshore Performing Arts Center Foundation or through TicketsWest. Or, charge-by-phone: 800-992-TIXX or stop by the NPACF box office at Mills Music Inc. Bothell store, 10120 Main Street, Bothell, WA.

I couldn't care less about this fruitcake. He's a novelty act and it's amazing how shallow Americans can be when it comes to idolizing a talentless "celebrity."

What a snarky blog! Why do people feel compelled to bash Sanjaya? Get a life!

I love Sanjaya! He and Shyamali are both awesome singers. If I didn't live in Minnesota and have a first-grader, I would be first in line for that show.

He was the only reason i started watching American idol. He was entertaining, and i prefer that to watching the same old stuff.

I absolutely love Sanjaya; he has a great voice and is humble and charismatic. I would not miss this performance!

However, I am getting weary of reading the same old negative commentary from people who have never set foot on a stage and who don't have a kind word to say about a young man just starting out in the business. It's really getting old.

I would go to see Sanjaya...if I lived within 200 miles! But alas I don't :o( I love Sanjaya. I have yet to hear him sing live.
The show is great for people who live in that area.

Sanjaya's fantastic. I just wish I could see the show. As for where he's been, do you not own a TV or read magazines?

Have fun Sanji and sis; it'll be an awesome night!

I DON'T live in Seattle and I plan on traveling across the country just to see this show! So yes, people DO care about Sanjaya...lots and lots. Enough to travel and go for broke.

Just a little note, it's called Secondary Academy for Success. There's no 'student'. Anyways, even if you think he has no talent, he's helping us get attention for the program that we would have a hard time getting otherwise. This is the opportunity of a lifetime for us, we have so many talented singers who could benefit from this, and he's coming up here just because Bernadette asked him to, he's not getting anything out of this. It's sad when people criticize another person's charitable act.

I am a student at SAS and will be preforming for this concert. I am so happy with all the support we've been getting. But there will always be cynical people trying to bring you down. For those bashing Sanjia, he is doing this out of the goodness of his heart. This concert funds our music programs and he is getting us alot of publicity which ultimately benifits not only our school, but we're hoping to spread this program through the district, and even farther. Budget cuts are taking out fine arts programs. And as an alternative school we already are at the bottom of the totem pole. This is a life changing experiance. It has effected all of us. Bernadette, Sanjia, and MANY people have helped us, for no reason at all, other than to show us they care. They love us. Thats hard to come by in the world now days. I owe alot of who I am and who I'm becoming to the people whop have put their effort into this program. Jim Geizler, Bernadette Bascom, Sanjia, And EVERYONE who is involved. THANK YOU. So much. You can't begin to comprehend how much this means to all of us.

Kudos to Sanjaya for taking part in an event for a great cause. He's a class act for sure.

hmmmm a fund raiser for the program so that Bernadette Bascom can get paid more money. and this is the only performance we've seen Sanjaya in since AI. the charitable pockets sound like they are Bernadette and Sanjaya.

That last comment is so untrue. Sanjaya is not getting any money from this. And he is doing it because he cares about the arts programs in schools. Also this is not the only thing Sanjaya has done since AI. Right in the Seattle area he did Black Nativity and he did an appearance on the Christmas in the Northwest television special. He didn't get paid for those, either. He has a big heart and does a lot for charity. Plus he hosted a where are they now TV special about former Idol contestants for the TV Guide network. He also performed in a charity event put on by Jordin Sparks during Super Bowl week. He was not paid for that, either.

I saw the show and I am here to tell you that Sanjaya OWNED that stage. He is a rare talent and a genuinely kind and loving human being. What a wonderful thing he, Shyamali, and Bernadette are doing to get funding for arts in the schools.

Why have comments been removed from this blog? There were at least two comments from people who had seen the show and both seem to have been removed.

Nevermind. I see the comments are there. For some reason they were not showing up earlier. My apologies.
