P-I reader blogger Linda Sharp has a funny take on a funny news story you may have missed.
Two Florida teens were escorted off a Southwest Airlines flight from Tampa to Los Angeles because they were too darned pretty. At least, that's how 18-year-old Nisreen Swedberg and friend Sarah Williams explained it to Tampa Bay's 10 News.
"I think they were just discriminating against because we were young decent-looking girls. I mean, nobody else on the plane looked like us except us," one of the girls said. "[The flight attendants] were like older ladies. We were younger. Who knows, they could have been just jealous of us because we were younger."
Southwest Airlines begs to differ, saying the girls caused a disturbance on the plane.
Sharp gave "Miss Thang 1 and Thang 2" a comical chastising on her blog this morning:
Gee, I'm glad my mascara is waterproof, ladies. The tears streaming down my face would surely have smeared it by now if it weren't.
Oh, those are tears of laughter, by the way, not sympathy.
Our two oldest daughters, who are not exactly pains in the corneas, have flown on their own several times, and at no point have they ever felt discriminated against, ignored, or perseCUTEd.
Oh, but then, they know the definitions of decorum, personal responsibility, propriety, politeness, and that age old axiom: Do unto others as you would have others do unto you.

I am more interested in the state gubernatorial race than the national one. It is almost a forgone conclusion that Obama will take this state. With the tight race for governor, every vote will count."

That's great except that if you actually watch the video, the girl doesn't say they were discriminated against because they were "too pretty".
What she DOES say is that they were the only people who were young, and that they were the only people who looked like them. At the end she says they were discriminated against because of their "looks", which could mean looking young or looking more clean-cut than other passengers.
I'm not saying that these girls were angels, but how can the airline justify not serving water to customers, rude or not, out of turn like that?
Plus, I think the media is hyping the "pretty" tag line for their own purposes. Big surprise, huh!
