A funny thing happened on the S.L.U.T.'s maiden voyage

P-I reporter Kery Murakami, who's on vacation this week, just phoned in a quick observation from the South Lake Union Streetcar's maiden voyage:

"I don't know if anyone noticed this, but the S.L.U.T. ran a red light."

It happened at the intersection of Westlake and Olive, about 30 feet and five seconds after the streetcar set off on its route. Mayor Greg Nickels and other dignitaries were on board.

Olive Way was blocked off, of course. But still, Murakami said, he found it a little funny.

Come on Murakami, you're on vacation now. No need to be attending these events and phoning in anecdotes.

Go hang out at one of those Broadway bars you seem to frequent or something.

Or better yet, go check the scores.

If you think that's funny, you oughta watch a funeral procession sometime.

So Nickles was riding Jody Patton?
