Protest du Jour: 40 days for Life

Starting today for the next 40 days, pro-life advocates in Seattle plan to hold vigil outside the Planned Parenthood in the University District from morning to night.

They are planning shifts through the campaign, being organized on the Internet and in community groups and churches. There was a kickoff rally last night at the University of Washington's Newman Center.

The goal of the 40 Days campaign is to reduce the abortion rate in Seattle and other cities nationwide. The campaign is being held simultaneously around the country.

The U-District Planned Parenthood is located at the corner of Ninth Ave Northeast and Northeast 45th Street.

So what? This protest is so irrelevant no one but me even bothered to comment about it. Try Texas; maybe they will be more accomodating.

I think its very relevant. People read but they don't always comment.

It's not so much a protest as a prayer event. They're praying for the mothers and abortion industry employees as much as for children, and it's all supposed to be completely peaceful and quiet. Anytime human beings suffer, it's relevant. It's good that some people care. They already did try it in Texas, and had amazing results.

I have been at many of these so-called "prayer events" when I had a different view of this issue. We almost always recieved instructions on how to harass the clients entering there for service. Of particular note young males (under 18) were told that nothing will happen to them if they act out violently because "they will just give you church-monitored probation". How christian. Go back to Texas or take your chances with the kind of welcome you might recieve.

Resigned, I have been involved in vigils at clinics since 1978 and I have never heard the least toleration for violence either expressed or implied. Would you care to document or specify (time, place, name) the unsubstantiated statement you made about under-18 males acting out violently? That way anybody who's interested in the truth of the matter can investigate or refute your statement.

It doesn't matter what they call it, standing outside a clinic intimidating the women who use it is still harassment and there's nothing peaceful about it.

It is very interesting when Conservatives protest its intimidation, when liberals protest its free speech.

Shame on the liberals. So dishonest. What is intimidating about someone praying? Are you threatened by the thought that their might be a God? "Besides if prayer is so intimidating as you make it out to be why not ban all churches on the basis of "intimidation"?

Plain and simple. They ARE Harrassing WOMEN. Half those women who go into the planned parenthood clinics are not going their for an abortion they are going there for normal checkups. They yell at us when we go in, The call us "baby killers", say were sluts and Its already happen to me with this campaign being here in Seattle and its only day two.

Whats next?! Seriously.
These anti-choice, bigots are not welcome in Seattle and counter protest will continue to go on. If you support Planned Parenthood sign up to be on their visibility teams by going to their website.

The first day they were in Seattle they had 40 people at a church praying and we have over a 100 counter protesters outside with signs getting people to honk. The numbers show that the pro-child, pro-family, pro-choice, pro a womans right to choose what a woman does with her body movement doesnt want these anti choice, controlling, back alley abortion wanting, hypocrits in Seattle.

Its my uterus. Its my choice. plain and simple. Stop harrassing clinics that let me go see a doctor!

I seriously doubt #54535 when she says "They yell at us when we go in, The call us "baby killers", say were sluts and Its already happen to me with this campaign being here in Seattle and its only day two" When I drove by on the way to work this am, 4 people were in a parking lot, praying looked like, and 3 women with "We love PP" and "Honk if you love PP" signs were on the corner. Didn't look confrantational to me.

As a post-abortive woman from 30 years ago, I can tell you first hand that I was sucked in by all the lies of "it's your body, it's your uterus, it's your RIGHT"--it's also a child in the womb--it is also your emotional and mental health that are being endangered. What woman can cope with the truth that she has killed her own child and not be affected adversely? Why am I against abortion? Because I KNOW how I steals your soul and distorts your view of life at ALL LEVELS not just your physical body. We not only pray to protect the child and the mother, but also for those involved in the mass killings of millions of innocent human lives AND those who are involved directly with those killings.

I just moved from Seattle down here to San Antonio TX. My hubby is with WaMu. I lived in downtown during WTO and I know that when liberals protest it gets messy. Don't get me wrong. I never was going to join any pro life group, but when I read about the standards that we are required to follow as part of the 40 days for life and what it was all about - I signed up immediately. This is NOT a protest or a demonstration. The way some use to be was why I never signed up for those things before. But, I go out three days a week now and can honestly say that this is straight prayer and support being given to these women. We don't force them or harass them, but PP was right in saying that the extremists do show up. We have had several people we have had to ask to leave that were NOT part of the 40 Days, but had decided to protest near us. Just so everyone is clear on this: fanatical pro life protests are people NOT associated with the 40 Days For Life. Period.

Thank you DAVID BEREIT, Aaron and Chris plus the strong baby loving souls who turned out to pray for vulnerable babies and woman and of course all involved in the abortion business. The seed has been planted and nourished by the prayers, fasting and by the quiet presence of pro-life humans and I look forward to 40 days again next year.

FEATURED COMMENT

PictureI am more interested in the state gubernatorial race than the national one. It is almost a forgone conclusion that Obama will take this state. With the tight race for governor, every vote will count."
