Kapow! Coffee is overwhelmed by S.L.U.T. shirt orders

Apparently, Kapow! Coffee is selling way more shirts commemorating the South Lake Union Trolley's unfortunate acronym than the four they sold that one day last week.

Picture
Jerry Johnson, foreground, and Don Clifton model the "Ride the S.L.U.T." T-shirts they created to poke fun at the original acronym of the South Lake Union Streetcar. The shirts are sold at the Kapow! coffee shop in the neighborhood. (Andy Rogers / P-I)

People who emailed slutshirt@hotmail.com to put in an order after last week's media storm today got this sent to their inbox.

We feel your pain, Don. Hang in there. We'll go without orange shirts for the time being.

And seriously, who the heck thinks Seattle is in Wisconsin?

Hello everyone,

Sorry for the form letter, but Big Jerry and I have gone from two guys selling shirts out of a cardboard box to our friends around the Cascade neighborhood(the original name of the neighborhood), to two guys selling shirts out of a cardboard box to the entire world, all in one day.

We are scrambling to meet shirt orders and should have all orders taken care of within a month. With over a hundred e-mail inquiries a day, we unfortunately are unable to respond to every question.

Our quickly tossed together web site has errors we are working to fix, so please read the following for corrections and all info regarding the S.L.U.T. shirts.

First, Seattle is in Washington (WA), not in Wisconsin (WI). Yeh, tell us about it.

Second, we don't have red or orange shirts at this time. Pictured was an orange shirt we had made for the construction workers on the project. Heh, heh, heh. If enough people have ordered a red or orange shirt we will make a special order, but it will add time to shipping.

If you don't want to wait please pick one of the other colors and let us know your decision. Once things calm down we will add more colors to augment your S.L.U.T. wardrobe.

Third, shipping and handling is a flat $5.00 per shirt. We are too overwhelmed to weigh each order at the Post.

Fourth, we don't have denim jackets or embroidery.

Fifth, Baby Doll Tees are women shirts with a shorter sleeve. They are available in Medium, Large, and X-Large. They tend to run a little small. They are indeed for people, not baby dolls.

Sending a personal check will delay your order until the check clears.

Why is everything so crazy on our site? Well, everyone enjoys a good drink; evidently some web designers enjoy them while they work.

Sorry for any inconvenience, it will be fixed very soon.

Thank you to all of who have ordered a shirt. We are not Old Navy, we have a staff of two, one of which still has coffee to sell, the other with 5 part time jobs. Please be patient.

We will get your shirt to you.

Again, we will try to answer questions but our silly shirt has found its way around the world with us receiving calls from China, Australia, Canada, almost every state in the Union, etc.

Hopefully, this will provide you the information you need.

The web site to arrange payment is at www.ridetheslut.com. We accept Paypal or check or money order to the address listed. If the Paypal link on the site is being stubborn, log into paypal and send your payment to slutshirt@hotmail.com. Specify size and color.

If ever in Seattle, put on your shirt, stop by Kapow for a coffee, and we can go hop on the S.L.U.T. together.

Thanks a million,

Don Clifton

I hope they're getting paid, at least marginally, for this.

Oh, WTF, they're getting RICH!!

I hope they remembered to put the name of the coffee shop somewhere on the shirt.

If all else fails these guys should get onto a site like CafePress and see about selling through them...may not be exactly the mom and pop thing they were looking for but when CNN and FOX news run your story you have kind of flown pass mom and pop.....Congrats on the success!

Somewhere in South Lake Union, Paul Allen is going "Why didn't I think of that?!?!"

So are passengers called Highway Occupants? Otherwise known as HO's????
