Bumbershoot: Crowded House

Perfect weather, 75 degrees with a slight breeze, and a great band that seems to be coming back: Crowded House. Neil Finn and Nick Seymour, former member Mark Hart and new drummer Matt Sherrod. Seymour was decked out in a white suit, and was back to his old self, hamming it up for the crowd. Finn's voice has changed. Like to a fine wine it has improved with age, a bit of a rasp behind it.
They opened their set with "Distant Sun" and moved on to "Don't Stop Now." I could have sworn I was just thinking, give me something to write about, and Finn sang the lyrics, "Give me something to write about." So here I am writing about it. Seems every band member gets his chance at the keyboards, but when Finn jumped on and keyed out the melody to a former hit song the crowd took up the lyrics. "Sweet," was his appropriate response to the crowd's enthusiasm.
I stuck around for a few more songs but after 45 minutes I realized my head was baking and I needed to find shelter and a hat.
Shelter found, now I'm in search of a hat.
Apparently I missed a guest appearance by Eddie Vedder, Damn hat!

Crowded House rocked! and yes, you did miss Eddie - he joined the band for World Where You Live and Something So Strong. Pearl Jam drummer Matt Cameron was watching the show from the side of stage - I saw him there early on and so knew Eddie would be making an appearance (Eddie and Neil Finn are old friends).

Oh my, they had a great live sound (Kudos to sound staff), we sat in bleachers on the south side about sound board distance away from stage. The music flowed through the stadium as my eyes reached the sky to watch seaguls soaring amongst wispy cirus. The slide guitar work was stellar, they just had the killer live sound that day. What great catch, I hope they come back....
