Everyone's favorite Icelanders, experimental rockers Sigur Ros, have been mesmerizing Americans listeners that don't speak a lick of Icelandic since their second record, Agaetis Byrjun, was first released in 2001. The band later put out their debut album, Von, as well as ( ) in 2002 and Takk… in 2005. Sigur Ros has continued to gain popularity in the US despite sparse performances and the fact that lead singer Jonsi Birgisson could be telling us to go to hell in Icelandic for all we know.

It is with great anticipation that Sigur Ros fans have awaited the June 24th release of the band's fifth studio album, Meo suo i eyrum vio spilum endalaust, which apparently means "with a buzz in our ears we play endlessly," though I myself can't verify this translation.
The album features some of Sigur Ros' finest work with Birgisson's haunting falsetto vocals weaving thorough their always-inventive musical arrangement that includes everything from a full boys' choir on "Ara batur" to a glockenspiel on "Inni mer syngur vitleysingur."
The 11-track set, although very much the ambient songwriting you'd expect for the Icelandic foursome, is a bit more acoustically-geared than their past works. This move is especially apparent on the albums third track, "Gooan daginn."

The most startling inclusion on Meo suo i eyrum vio spilum endalaust is the record's final track, "All Alright"- it's in English! On the remarkably minimalistic closer Birgisson whispers, "let's sing into the years/ like one singing in tune together/ a psalm for no one/ let's sing in tune/ boy our love it's home."
Although, it's nice to, for once, understand Sigur Ros lyrics, it has never been necessary for US fans, something made apparent by their impressive domestic record sales. The band continues to impress with their creativity and angelic sound and Meo suo i eyrum vio spilum endalaust is possibly their best work to date.
Check out a free download of the album's opening track on the band's website or preview all 11 tracks at Last.fm.
Sigur Ros recently announced plans for a US tour in the fall of this year and will be playing Seattle's Benaroya Hall on October 5th. Save the date- this is not an act to be missed.

Actually, it's Meğ suğ í eyrum viğ spilum endalaust! Your translation is correct though - but the funny letters are like the 'th' in 'the'.. kinda pronounced like this: "meth soothe ee ayrum vith speelum endaloist"
Either way, it's a great album!
