Cat Power has powerful show at the Showbox SoDo

I have read multiple reviews that describe Cat Power's live performances as "beautiful disasters." Cat Power's show on Friday, April 11 at the Showbox SoDo satisfies only the first part of that description.

I first fell in love with Cat Power, A.K.A Charlyn Marshall, when I heard her album Moon Pix. I love her unique vocal tone and quality. I think her voice is the most beautiful of the female artists I listen to. Her minimalist style is perfect balances perfectly with her strong, yet ethereal vocals.

I had no idea what to expect from a Cat Power live performance. I had heard she was known to put on an alcohol-induced chaotic show. But, after reading that Marshall had recently quit drinking, it was not a surprise to see a professional and well-crafted set. Cat Power played a beautiful and rockin' set, most songs from her newest album, Jukebox.

The audience that packed the Showbox SoDo obviously left it satisfied. They danced to danceable songs and swayed to the rest. Personally, I fell for Cat Power a little more that night. I can't wait to get a copy of Jukebox all for myself.
