Mislabeled tuna salad being recalled by QFC in Washington and Oregon

Quality Food Centers, better known as QFC, is trying to track down shoppers who purchased five types of mislabeled tuna salad sold at some of their stores in Washington and Oregon.

According to a notice released this afternoon by the Food and Drug Administration, the recall was issued because the dressing used in the salad contained milk, but its presence was not listed on the label.

"People who are allergic to milk run the risk of a serious or life-threatening reaction if they consume this product. No illnesses have been reported. For most consumers, there is no safety issue with the product," the FDA advisory states.

"There have been no reports of illness. None at all," said QFC spokeswoman Tammy Bottcher.

QFC says it has already notified half the people who purchased the mislabeled salad.

The chain was able to identify the shoppers who used the "loyalty" or shopper's card and had included their phone number when they applied for the card.

"For those shoppers for whom we didn't have a number, we will print the (recall) warning on their receipt when they shop next," said Bottcher.

The following deli-prepared items are included in the QFC recall:

-- Tuna Pecan Salad; sell by Aug. 29-30.

-- Tuna Salad-Stuffed Tomato; sell by Aug. 29-30.

-- Gourmet Tuna Wrap; sell by Aug. 27-28.

-- Custom-Prepared Whole Sandwich with Tuna Salad; prepared Aug. 25-26.

-- Custom-Prepared Half Sandwich with Tuna Salad; prepared Aug. 25-26.

Customers with questions or concerns may call 1-800-632-6900.
