« New poll shows Obama up by 9 | Main | Palin drops in Alaska Poll »
Back to the time Richard Nixon disastrously applied Lazy Shave just before his first 1960 TV debate with John F. Kennedy, Republicans have made a big deal out of haircuts and makeup.
When Nixon finally made it to the White House, a renowned Washington, D.C., barber named Pitts was credited with making the presidential coif look less greasy. He would trim and snip three Republican presidents.
The right wing has taken after Democrats, on matters the voters should consider neither hair nor there. There was the rumpus over the (incorrect) report that planes were held up at Los Angeles International Airport so Bill Clinton could get a trim-on-the-tarmac aboard Air Force One. Fox News was outraged -- outraged!!! -- when John Edwards' campaign expenses included a $400 haircut.
What's Fox going to do with this?
US Weekly is reporting that John McCain paid $5,583 to TV makeup artist Tifanie White, who has worked on American Idol. The expense is included in Big Mac's Federal Election Commission filing.
Of course, a 72-year-old guy needs a bit of assistance in looking good. The 1980's joke was that Jimmy Carter had looked at the world through rose-colored glasses, while Ronald Reagan looked at the world through orange-colored hair.
Still, even by John Edwards' standards, a $5,583 makeup job is a lot of cash - especially for the candidate who claims not to be the "celebrity" in the race.

The Republican's will view this the same way they did Bristol Palin's pregnancy...it'll be A-OK because it's one of their guys. But if it was Obama? Ho mamma, would there be fire and brimstone being slung around....
