Not only will the right-wing talk show hacks ignore this story, the mainstream press will, too. If it's bad, but not about Obama, it doesn't get run. Or it goes up for a few minutes and then gets yanked for some pap about Palin.

Air Force ONE did hold up activating a duty runway at LAX while Pres. Clinton got his Christoph haircut onboard. The lack of the additional runway did cause operational delays for approx 30 flights.

The following is from a June 30, 1993, Newsday article:

"According to Federal Aviation Administration records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, the May 18 haircut caused no significant delays of regularly scheduled passenger flights - no circling planes, no traffic jams on the runways.

Commuter airlines that fly routes reportedly affected by the president's haircut confirmed they have no record of delays that day.

The FAA records, generated by the regional Air Route Traffic Control Center, show that an unscheduled air taxi flight had the only delay attributed to the closure of two runways for an hour in anticipation of Air Force One's departure. The air taxi took off 17 minutes after leaving the gate -- two minutes late, by FAA accounting.

"If you understand the air traffic system, you'd find that statement [that planes were circling] ludicrous," said Fred O'Donnell, an FAA spokesman at the agency's Western-Pacific regional office, which responded to New York Newsday's May 21 request under the freedom of information law.

O'Donnell said that although two runways were closed, traffic was light that afternoon and arriving flights were simply diverted to the two other runways. "It did not cause any problems," he said."

The most important thing to take away from this tidbit is that it is the other guys who are "elitist", not McSame and St. Sarah.

Sure, plain or regular salt-o'-the-earth folks with mortgages on only one home and dicey health insurance coverage go out and spend $5,500 on "makeup artists". That's what it means to be "jus' plain folks".

But being a community organizer helping house the poor or a single parent raising two sons alone makes you an "elite".

Rush and Faux news had a field day with the $400.00 Edwards haircut. I am sure they will be silent about McCain's makeup artist, and any other Republican foible.

The "Media" is not liberal, like the Republicans claim. They give McCain, and the Bush Administration a pass, and focus on trivial pursuits.

According to Newsday Bill Clinton did not cause a delay.

Here is the story.

JONATHAN SCHELL. Newsday. Long Island, N.Y.: Jul 18, 1993.

AT 4:30 in the afternoon on Tuesday, May 18, President Bill Clinton boarded Air Force One, at Los Angeles International Airport, after playing a game of basketball with children in the city. Waiting for him there was Cristophe, a renowned hairdresser of Belgian extraction who catered to Hollywood stars and had on occasion cut Hillary Clinton's hair. At 4:52 p.m., the Secret Service and airport officials closed two of the airport's four runways, as is customary when Air Force One takes off or lands. A few minutes later, they requested a delay of 20 minutes. Meanwhile, Cristophe cut Clinton's hair. Air Force One took off at 5:48. Air traffic came and went on time, with the exception of an unscheduled air taxi, which took off 17 minutes after leaving the gate - two minutes late by Federal Aviation Agency standards.

The bare fact that the president had had a haircut on Air Force One was reported the next day by Reuters. On that day also, Valery Kuklinsky, a reporter in the L.A. bureau of UPI, called Elly Brekke, a spokeswoman for the FAA in L.A., to ask whether the president's haircut had delayed air traffic. Brekke stated that the air control tower had told her that the arrival of two incoming flights - one from Yuma, Ariz., the other from Palmdale, Calif. - had been delayed. On the 20th, Kuklinsky's findings were released, and Lois Romano, of the Washington Post, revealed that the hairdresser had been Cristophe, and that his fees were in the $200 range. The two crucial elements of the story, the airport delays and the high price of the haircut - the two wings, so to speak, on which the story would fly - were now in place.

The day after that, Glenn Kessler of this newspaper filed a Freedom of Information request for information about delays. Some five weeks later, he got his answer, which revealed that in fact there had been none. In the meantime, however, the story of the haircut, including the misinformation regarding delays, was winging its way around the world.

Are you diligently researching John McCain's father's history of anal fistulas from the 1940's as well?

McCain's the one who has spent the last twelve months insisting that he's a "common man" who eschews "elitism". Spending over $5000 on one makeup job is entirely relevant to debunking Senator McCain's own self-professed personal narrative.
