The lack of long term involvement at the national level is a plus. If we want change, we NEED someone who has not been overly indoctrinated in the old political ways.

But, she's no newbie. You don't get to be a governor of a state by being a political neophyte that just fell off of a pumpkin truck. I mean, if her service was only a year as her first elected office on a city council, I'd be concerned... but she's a state governor... that is not trivial.

Bob-o: You realize she has a year and a half experience as governor, and before that she was mayor of a town of 9000, right? And that's the entire total of her experience. And in that year and a half, she's managed to get an abusre of power investigation against her opened up!

So, as the GOP nominates a 72-yr-old who always talks about how important our current wars are, he picks someone who has run a small state (population) for less than 2 years? And someone strongly tied to oil extraction? Hmm..

I can only assume this pick was to remind everyone why Carter, with his lack of Washington experience, was such a great and beloved president.

As a Democrat, I'm delighted. However, I'm wondering why he didn't pick another Republican woman. Kay Bailey Hutchison is infinitely better qualified. On the off-chance that McCain does win, I am not going to be amused if she ends up as president if/when McCain's health fails.

I can't wait to see how the Republicans try to spin this one into a positive. I guess being an anti-choice NRA member is enough for them.

Bring on the VP debates. It should be VERY entertaining.

Isn't one of McCain's main sticking points on Obama that he lacks experience to sufficiently run the country? So he selects as his running mate a governor who hasn't even completed her first term yet and before that was mayor of a town with a population of less than 9,000? And that's the sum of her politcally elected experience? Double-standard there Johnny boy?

This is a brilliant choice. Note: I will be voting for Obama in Nov. we can't take another term of the GOP. That said, this pick will be hard to argue against without the Dems sounding hypocritical and shooting themselves in the foot. I hope they do a good job stategizing against the Reps because they are a hard group to fight against.

Actually, according to Webster's judgement and judgment are both accepted spellings. Much like theater/theatre, color/colour. So oyu make fun of someone' speeling, which is just as correct as your own, without slowing down to think you should double-check your facts and do any research.

Just reading posts, but be careful about correcting people if you aren't 100% correct....It is actually acceptable to spell it both ways, look it up. The preferrred way is judgment, but judgement is also accepted.

And I'll add....Obama/Biden for office. And I actually like McCains choice, a little hypcritical since she has hardly any useful experience. But I think the only way change will ever occur it to have new faces and not the same political BS that has happened for the last few years.

Sorry, but she the only one that they could get. She said today that she doesn't know what the job of VP entails. Try that one in your next job interview. Can you imagine having that person one heartbeat (or one stoke, or one cancer) away from the Presidency.

I really believe that McCain has made a huge mistake on this one. Although she may be charming and cute, she has never worked in washington. I imagine that if she becomes VP she will be used only as a pretty face and not a member of an administrative team. She is nearly 30 years younger then McCain. The contrast is far too great and they dont look like a team. Do we really think that McCain will consult her advice on China, or Iran? The most effective VPs have been as experienced or more experienced then the presidents they serve. They must step in a moments notice and take over. It is clear that McCain does not respect the VP slot by his previous statements and now his picking of a political amature to be our next VP.

Sure, for the most part, VP's in the past have had more experience in Washington and were probably better qualified for the job than she is...but our country can only go up from where we are. There is nothing wrong in having pretty woman on a top post, but what experience qualifies her for THIS PARTICULAR POSITION?
Work as a sport journalist? Running a small town? Leading for two years a state with less then 700,000 population and budget surplus from oil and gas royalties?

Is she ready to step in president shoes if (god forbid) McCain is elected and develops health problem?

VP f the past frequently travel abroad on diplomatic missions. Has she eve been anywhere?

Actually, in the United States, we write it "judgment" and you can thank Noah Webster for that. In Jolly Old England, they keep the extra "e" so you may be right that both are acceptable. The Brits also write color as "colour". I'm a proud american who chooses to spell judgment the way Webster would want it spelled. As far as McCain's choice, I fear that we will find out too late that she also lacks the temperament and good judgment that is necessary to sustain this great nation.

Because I value life, and don't believe in a free lunch.

I exercise, eat healthy, and consequently avoid the doctor. My wife and I both work hard to pay for our food, our mortgage, and our healthcare. I'm satisfied with our healthcare costs. I don't want my taxes to increase. I believe in personal responsibility. Contrary to what Obama thinks, I firmly believe that more Americans with health insurance in NO WAY amounts to a healthier country. Eat an apple instead of a bag of chips, get off your butt, and try exercising for 30-60 minutes a day. Personal responsibility makes a healthier nation. Not a free lunch!

It makes me angry that while my wife and I work our butts off as we save for a home, Obama plans to take more from us in taxes. Or should I believe him when he says he plans to lower our taxes? Am I overly pessimistic in assumption that my wife and I will be part of the "5%" who do NOT see a decrease in our taxes under Obama's too-good-to-be-true tax plan? Let's recap: he wants to spend ALL this money with big government programs, like healthcare for all, better schools, better jobs, complete energy indepence in 10 years, etc. And meanwhile he plans to REDUCE taxes for 95% of all working families!!!??? Wow, someone please sign me up for that free lunch; that sounds terrific! I just don't follow his math.
