Gregoire expands poll lead over Rossi

Gov. Chris Gregoire leads Republican challenger 47 percent to 39 pecent in the June Elway poll.

The latest numbers are an improvement for Gregoire, who led Rossi 43-38 in April. The latest survey of 405 registered voters in the state was conducted June 18-22 and has a margin of error of 5 percent.

Pollster Stuart Elway reports the Gregoire-Rossi rematch remains a highly partisan affair:
*81 percent of Democrats intend to vote for Gregoire.
*78 percent of Republicans plan to vote for Rossi.
*Gregoire leads among independents 43-37.

The highest proportion of undecided voters were people under age 35. Elway says 35 percent of them still haven't settled on a candidate.

More liberal Blather. Don't beleive a word of it. The OPen handed Gregoire is about as vulnerable as she has ever been. Her latest "bribe' Incident with the tribes will domino further when more details are exposed. Our gret gov is getting ready to stick it to us washintonians but yet with one moregas tax increase next week, while her fellow statesman are struggling to make ends meet because of our 54 cent state and federal tax on each gallon of gasoline she will further hurt her fellow statemsmen by making us pay even more, remember it is the DEMS that brought on this sales tax and Gregoire pushed it through on an emergency bill.

Rossi is a loser. He is about to become a two time loser. Most people are tired of what the Republicans are offering. The brand is bankrupt.

When Gov. Gregoire was Attorney General, she and her staff helped my father get his money back that he lost from a 401K scheme that Prudential tried to pull.

Gov. Gregoire helped me get the disability benefits I needed to help with my cerebral palsy.

Do I sound biased? You bet I do!

I like the one about Rossi no longer wanting to be identified as a "Republican", instead desiring to use "prefers GOP" as a party identifier.

Har de har har har ...

Which others on the right are ashamed of their party's brand these days ?

SEAguy

Gregoire going to kick arse!

Don't we have a surplus right now?

Don't make me laugh. She wants to have a State Income Tax. She has stated that she wants this to happen before she is out of office this year. You go ahead an vote for the two headed dragon. Besides I don't see you running for office?

#145152

Posted by TheMan at 6/28/08 7:54 p.m.

You libs never fail to amuse me. The only thing this woman has done since taking office is made the por poorer with her mandated gas tax. Did it fix the roads? Nope. We have some of the worst traffic in the country under her socialist democratic rule with no plan in sight. Her 54 cent gas tax per gallon is one of the highest on the country. And her underhanded bribes "donation" from the tribes should be enough to make you run and hide, everyone but you lemmings. You people deserve what you get.

Gregoire Supports Jim McIntire, Gates Commission sycophant for State Treasurer, and McIntire is a tireless supporter of the State Income Tax. The Surplus, by her own Budget offices estimates will be gone and turned to a substantial deficit within the next two years. That 2.65 Billion Dollar deficit does not count the 5 Billion dollars the State Employees Pension funds that are owed. Funds which have almost 1/2 of the participants eligible for retirement benefits in the next ten years. It also does not count the School equalization funding that is about to be mandated in a settlement by the Courts.

Off topic here, but we should have a state income tax - combined with the elimination of the state portion of the sales tax and the B & O tax.

Income tax revenues are much more stable than sales or business receipt taxes. Make that income tax progressive and the rich pay an equal portion of their income towards state services as do the poor and middle class.

But it will never happen because the right-wing gets to advocate greed as a campaign slogan against an income tax, which is hard to beat even with rational, cogent and correct arguments.

But, back on topic, Rossi is toast. Past tense. Stick a fork in him. He's done. His only campaign slogan is "I'm not her", which isn't giving the voters much traction.

Posted by Cameron08 at 6/28/08 10:19 p.m.

Why would any rational person trust that an adminstration that cannot fully fund pension plans in a time of surplus be given access to any additional revenue sources like an income tax? How smuch infrastructure could be built for the 140 Million a year the Governor negotiated away for the taxpayers of Washington? Why does the Governor continue to tax Public Capital Improvement Projects like the 520 Bridge? 189 Million dollars in Sales Tax that has to be financed over a forty year period at an estimated 4.3% interest rate? She is facing a deficit projected by her own budget office, what is she doing about it? Hiring freeze? Cuts in projects? Stopping services to those not eligible to receive them? What is the Governor planning to do about this mess besides trying to extract more from the taxpayers?

You Republicans should know that Gregoire came up under the tutelage of Slade Gorton. She is not the scary "liberal" that the Rossi camp wants you to think she is.

Funny how Rossi's poll numbers went down after he started running his ads.

Also, not everyone who disagrees with you is a "lib". Grow up.

There are plenty of moderates, conservatives, and independants who will vote for Gregoire. Not just "libs".

Wow. Those dirtball radio spots that Rossi and the BIAW are running must be backfiring. There doesn't appear to be much of a race for Governor this year. No surprise really. This is a really bad year for a Republican candidate and Dino Rossi is a standard issue Republican who is obviously connected at the hip with the extreme base of the GOP.

Beat me to it, husky fan. I don't have a whole lot of love for Gregoire, especially after her abysmal "leadership" on the viaduct debacle. She is a leader in the sense that Bill Bavasi was a leader.

But ... the BIAW? Are you kidding me? The same @#$%s that would love to turn the entire state into strip malls and subdivisions and not pay a penny for dealing with the resultant mess?

Uh-unh. I'll stick with Gregoire instead.

BTW, are any of you conservatives familiar with the state constitution? No, I didn't think so.

See, Gregoire can't just wave a magic wand and install a state income tax. For the state to have an income tax, the state constitution would need to be amended. And amendment of the state constitution requires not only approval of two-thirds of both houses of the legislatures, but the voters would also need to approve it. The governor has no more official role in the process than you or I. She may be more connected and people will take her opinion more seriously than geeks on an internet message board, but she officially is just another voter. We've had the legislature give the two-thirds approval before, but voter approval has proven to be not so much a hurdle as a brick wall.

Liberals who want a state income tax don't seem to know the state constitution either, as they keep bringing up the idea seemingly without any recognition of what it's going to take to get it passed. Want a state income tax? Ultimately, you're going to have to go to places like the Tonasket Chamber of Commerce and persuade them that a state income tax is better for them than the present system.

That is going to require a reversal of the current anti-tax mindset, and to do that, voters need to be convinced that they're getting value for their tax dollars. That's going to require complete replacement of the officials that currently seem to get up each morning thinking "How can we keep Tim Eyman from having to get a job today?" and a lot of hard work beyond that.

In a recent poll taken at the liberal Seattle PI, Governor Gregoire has a humungous 99% lead over Rossi. The 1% vote for Rossi came from the janitorial staff, who actually work for a living.

Ballard Pimp writes:

"Rossi should just invite a couple of his biggest endorsers to visit the state. You know: The Lying Rat B*st*rd and his sidekick Cheney."

I guess it takes a "purveyor of human commodities" to vote for one huh?

jefdkfn1 writes:

"When Gov. Gregoire was Attorney General, she and her staff helped my father get his money back that he lost from a 401K scheme that Prudential tried to pull.

Gov. Gregoire helped me get the disability benefits I needed to help with my cerebral palsy.

Do you by chance also run a smoke filled casino on an Indian Reservation? Our esteemed governor has "helped" them as well (and in return they did a royal back $cratching cha-chinggg$$$).

Husky fan writes:

So the bad boys and girls in this years election are the people that want to build things huh?

Building things is BAD (especially on private property); I get it now.

The last time I walked through downtown Seattle (which was this morning), I noticed that high rise condominiums are STILL going up, eating up every inch of "Gregoireland".

I get it now; building things is BAD, but only if its OUTSIDE of the Seattle City limits. Gotcha.

Gregoire couldn't be reached for comment on her commanding lead in a recent poll, as she is the first governor for the State of Washington that is marching in a gay pride parade. Yes, "the gov" is currently shaking hands with such constituents as "Dykes on Bikes", "The Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence", guys wearing leather jockstraps (and nothing else), and yes, the guy that wears the penis costume. I can see why you democrats are so "proud" of your governor, she just reeks of character.

I think the Gov's lead just narrowed a bit based on the reaction to the Areva story in the Tri-Cities. Of course it's a negative story about the Gov so it will not make it to the Sound Off section. 2 Billion Dollar plant and 400 living wage jobs NAAAH, Gregoire wouldn't wouldn't want to help make that happen. We wouldn't want to put a uranium enrichment plant in HANFORD would we?

Rossi Files Unprecedented 8th Run for Governor
By DJ Savage
THE SEATTLE DAILY STRANGER
May 12, 2032

Failed slumlord Dino Rossi filed today for an unprecedented eighth consecutive run for governor of Washington State. Rossi will run for the first time on the Independent-Oddfellow ticket. Rossi has run in every gubernatorial election in Washington since 2004, failing to advance beyond the primary in the last six tries.

Rossi gained national attention in the 2004 election when, running as a Republican, he lost to Democrat Christine Gregoire by just 129 votes, a margin of 0.0045%. His subsequent legal challenges to the result were unsuccessful. Rossi has also named part-time net-journalist and long time political ally Stefan Sharkansky as his campaign manager.

Rossi joins a crowded field led by Republican Reagan Dunn hoping to unseat wildly popular first term Democratic Governor Dean Logan.

The once successful real estate investor fell on hard times after it was discovered that a Renton apartment building that he purchased and renovated in 2009 had been insulated with shredded voter registrations and asbestos waste. The resulting litigation proved financially devastating to Rossi, and he filed bankruptcy in 2012. Since 2015 he has shared a trailer in Algona with Sharkansky.

"Of course it's a negative story about the Gov so it will not make it to the Sound Off section."

It won't "make it to the Sound Off section" because it is an AP wire story. The PI does not provide public comment on AP wire stories.

These numbers indicate that previously undecided voters are breaking to Gregoire four to one. This in spite of the onslaught of lying smear ads targeting the Governor produced by the gigantic builder's lobby on behalf of real estate speculator Dino.

It's good to see that resorting to sleaze paid for by special interests won't win elections in a state where voters think for themselves.

Quote for the Tribune But rather than champion a project she feared would be controversial in environmental circles, Gregoire deployed what she called a "balanced approach" of not publicly promoting or opposing it. see, www.thenewstribune.com/news/local/story/
400386.html

She seems to be doing a lot of that lately – I think if she is scared she should step down.

Saw a news story the other evening on one of the local networks and can't seem to find anything on it in print. Story was about how she had agreed to obey federal law and remove over 3000 noncitizens from the Medicaid roles.

I can see that being scooped by the Tri-City Herald could be embarassing and then to have it hit the AP WIRE. Those are really good reasons not to make it a Sound-off topic. Now the trick for the PI is to have someone else break all of the negative stories about Gregoire wait for them to get big enough to make the WIRE and they can continue to play kissy face with the current administration throughout the entire election without ever having to have a Sound-off that might not favor their favorite candidate.

Negative ads? Sheesh- you people are negative ads. You say such trivial, mean things JUST because the man is a republican. You may also want to drop the "just another Bush" lines, there are a little worn. Bush's biggest problem has always been that he leans a little too much to the left.

Gregoire? Is she still in Olympia? I haven't seen her DO anything to help the state.

Has the viaduct been replaced?

How about 520?

Didn't she say that those were emergencies and could fall down any day?

If the USA was able to build most of the framework for the entire interstate system in a few years, you would think that Washington State could build a bridge in 4. I guess with Ms. Indecision running the (circus) show, she is too busy handing my gas tax money to her friends in the consultant business rather than actually build anything.

What a waste of four years!

#147502

The same over spending agenda that has been in Olympia for the past 25 years will continue unless we do something about it. Gregoire hasn't helped by passing up $140 million in taxed gaming revenue for bribes from the tribe. The problem with King County is that the voters are to stupid to read the issues and instead just mark the democract on the ballot. WAKE UP PEOPLE! ITS TIME FOR CHANGE.

I just want to say that I saw Gregoire answer a question about the state's finances on khq6... The question was about the so called deficit we are facing. Gregoire responds something like "we are not facing a deficit, and that we actually have a *surplus!!*..." but then she proceeds to use some confusing language about how we may use the surplus to help pay for some things at the end of the year??

Dino Rossi answered the question in a very clear and simple manner. Right now it's like we have 800 dollars in our checking account. At the end of the year we have a 2700 dollar bill coming. Just because we have money in our account now doesn't mean squat.
