Appeasers? Really? From a Bush?

Why would President George W. Bush, whose grandfather (Prescott Bush) and great-grandfather (George Herbert Walker) reportedly traded with the Nazis, raise Nazi appeasement in a political argument?

Something about glass houses, or not playing the Nazi card when your family provided aid and comfort to the enemy after the U.S. entered WWII.

Don't like getting your news from The Guardian? Here's the same story from The Associated Press on the Fox News Web site.

Yes, there is a reason why it is called HISTORY. And the thought process is to NOT repeat it. Funny how the Democrats are taking so much offense regarding this.

YOU, The DEMOCRATS, (and the PRESS, which includes Seattle PI, you ARE the Joseph Goebbels WING of the Democrat party), are the LEAD appeasers, making Neville Chamberlain proud.

WHAT is the Democrats mantra? To CUT and RUN from Iraq. Which only strengthens Iran, which wants to DESTROY Israeli.

Seattle PI, Heil Democrats! You were suppose to be the 4th wing of the government to keep checks and balances. But you are SO allied and IN THE TANK for the Democrat party, that is why I hailed you as such.

Glubber go back and take a course in modern European history, then read the two articles reference above, and see if you still feel the same way. Or you can take the alternate approach of ignoring reality if it makes you feel better. Complete ignorance can be such bliss, can't it, now.

Glubber, I want to make this basic and tell you why it still matters to Americans. The Bush family profited from the rearmament of Nazi Germany in spite of our efforts and laws to prevent it. In the long run it led to the death of over half a million Americans. On a personal level, it makes me sick to think that my Grandfather, a U.S. Navy medic, spent the late thirties trying to save Merchant Marines whose ships were sunk by U-Boats the Bush family helped provide our enemy. The fact that they continued after we officially declared war is treasonous.

There is simply no logical connection possible between any proposal to negotiate directly with an opponent, and the actual meaning of the word appeasement. Once again it would appear that vocabulary has gotten the better of our troubled President.

To appease would specifically mean to desist from confrontation by whatever means. Anyone who proposes to confront an opponent through any means, whether through negotiation or through armed conflict, is by logical definition not engaging in appeasement and could not logically be called an appeaser. Only when confrontation ceases and the opponent is granted permission to do as they please does appeasement take place.

Sadly, once again our President indicates that his grasp of even the simplest terms of foreign policy is beyond his comprehension. The abundant proof is in the "pudding" all around us. Sadder still is the spectacle of Senator McCain, who ought to know better, jumping on President Bush's stupidity wagon.

Yes, yes you are right. Only Republicans are allowed to make deals with the devil and either, boast about it or completely & categorically deny it ever happened, dependent of course upon who benefits or is hurt by it.

On even more recent current events, I can't wait to see the pictures of Bushie-poo's hugging, kissing & hand holding with his Arabic love, the Saudi Prince. I wonder if all his conservative followers cringe at the thought of man-on-man closeness? ;)

"Just as the United States has a constructive relationship with China (and earlier did so with the Soviet Union) while strongly opposing certain aspects of its internal and international policies, Washington should approach Iran with a readiness to explore areas of common interests while continuing to contest objectionable policy."

Who made that statement of 'appeasement?' That was Secretary of Defense Robert Gates. Uh oh, looks like Bush is speaking with a forked tongue again. Not a surprise, just an observation.

Don't forget, the US has relations with and conducts negotiations with North Korea and Libya, both supposed terrorist-supporting regimes [anyone remember the so-called axis-of-evil?] and one of our main trading partners [Communist China] is a dictatorship that utilizes slave labor to provide pre-packaged trash for sale in this country.

But don't let that stop the fearful masses from beating the drums of war. When you're doing things that are irrational you don't care if your motives don't make sense: you only care if they support your behavior.
