Hillary for VP? It may be her call

The Clintons may be able to call in enough superdelegate chips to guarantee Hillary the second spot on the Democratic ticket if she wants it, regardless of how Barack Obama feels, writes commentator Bob Beckell, campaign manager for Walter Mondale in 1984.

Almost all super delegates have had a long history with the Clintons. Many have only personally known Barack Obama a few months. Many who sided with Obama have benefited professionally, financially, and politically from their relationship with the Clintons. Many had jobs, and good ones, in the Clinton Administration. Many have been the recipients of tens of thousands of dollars raised on their behalf by the Clintons.

Well, if Clinton becomes the Veep nominee, the two of them will sweep the election in a landslide. However, I cannot believe that Obama will select her. He just doesn't like her and neither does his wife and I think they believe that they simply do not need her.
He is in the power position and I don't think he will be responsive to those who think she can bring any strength to the party.

I don't think he should. I think he should go with someone he trusts implicitly and who shares his vision of government. Also, grooming someone for the 2016 go-round would be a good thing.

On the other hand, she would be an exceptional Attorney General.

There's not a snowballs chance in hell that Clinton will be the VP candidate. We currently have two super egos competing for the Democratic presidential nomination. The VP is expected to be the president's lap dog and not a policy setter or even a real leader; just a loyal follower that espouses the president's ideas and direction. There's no way Obama will trust Clinton to be a tow-the-line follower, and no way Clinton would want to be one.

If he gets Hillary he gets Bill, too. Two for the price of one. Ugh.

I don't think Obama is that stupid. While that ticket might sound good to some, people vote for the President and basically couldn't care less who the VP mate is. If he puts her in, he would lose my vote for such insanity as he would be stuck with two Clintons for his term. I give him more credit than that.

Obama will lose the election if Hillary is VP. He ran on changing Washington. Hillary as VP is no change...it is the same old Washington and people will lose their trust in Obama. Hillary during the campaign was very sneeky...COULD YOU IMAGINE BILL AND HILL AS VP. GOD HELP OBAMA. OBAMAIS A SMART MAN AND SO ARE THE DEMOCRATIC PARTY - APART FROM BILL'S OLD DEM BUDDIES - KNOW THAT THEY WOULD LOSE THE ELECTIONS WITH HILLARY AS VP. I AM SURE HILLARY AGREES WITH THIS.

Obama can't just write off the fact he has 51% of the popular vote and she has 49%. A 2% margin is not a massive mandate for your candidacy. Or does "bringing people together" not include Hillary or her supporters? What about when Bush started claiming he had a big mandate when he won in 2004 with 51%?

If the large number of Hillary supporters promising a retaliatory Republican vote can be trusted to follow through on their spiteful and vindictive threats, Obama's time is better spent elsewhere.
