Larsen backs Obama

Rep. Rick Larsen, D-Wash., on Thursday became the third member of Washington's congressional delegation to endorse Illinois Sen. Barack Obama for the Democratic presidential nomination.

The no-holds-barred campaign leading up to the North Carolina and Indiana primaries showed that Obama is "tough and resilient," that he can "take a punch," and yet successfully deliver his message to the American people, said the four-term congressman from northwest Washington.

"Tuesday was a game-changer even though Obama didn't win both states," Larsen said.

Larsen joins Reps. Adam Smith and Brian Baird, D-Wash., in the Obama camp. Smith has chaired the Illinois senator's campaign. Gov. Christine Gregoire has also endorsed Obama.

Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, along with Reps. Jay Inslee and Norm Dicks, D-Wash., are in the Hillary Clinton camp.

Rep. Jim McDermott, D-Wash., has yet to announce a choice, other than to say last year that he hoped Al Gore would run.

Larsen represents the 2nd District, which stretches from Mukilteo to the Canadian border. It is a classic "swing", won narrowly by Larsen in 2000 after Republican Rep. Jack Metcalf retired after three terms. Larsen won handily in 2006 even though Vice President Dick Cheney and three Bush cabinet secretaries campaigned in the district for his opponent.

Larsen praised Obama for "truthtelling" when Clinton proposed a summer "holiday" in the 18.4 cent a gallon federal gasoline tax. The "holiday" would have made "little or no difference" for the hard-pressed motorist, he said.

The 2nd District spans the realm of American activism. Concerned Christian Women of Lynden, Wash., predated the Moral Majority, while the Rainbow Coalition carried on in northwest Washington long after the Rev. Jesse Jackson stopped running for president.

"He (Obama) has inspired and motivated my constituents like no other candidate," Larsen said.

Larsen is the sixth so-called Democratic "superdelegate" to endorse Obama in the last two days.

The "trickle" of superdelegates declaring for Obama is about to become a "tide"

Maybe McDumbDumb is waiting till one of the candidates steps up to pay for his illegal wire tap case. (He's probably threatening to wiretap them if they don't pay).

Or, more likely, he's waiting for his pal Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to invite him over so they can discuss who's best for Iran.

The more McDermott angers the right-wing ditto heads to the point that they feel compelled to post the drivel as seen above, the more I support his efforts no matter what they might be.

What's the address for his legal defense fund again?

Oh my, that is hilarious!
An angry, ignorant liberal whose handle is "Rational Thought"!!!
Kind of like my 4 year old telling me he's great at soccer.

PLEASE pay for Baghdad Jimmy. Give as much as you can.
As long as the apologists exists, the more you look...well, irrational.

Patty Murray, Maria Cantwell, Norm Dicks and Jay Inslee should reconsider, since Washington went so strongly for Obama. In light of the situation, they should at least explain the reasons they will vote the opposite their constituents. I hope the answer is not cronyism.

There isn't any way Clinton can get the nomination without alienating a huge portion of the very people she would need to vote for her at this point. And the eventual nominee could certainly use this time to begin his campaign against McCain.

Um, RationalThought is anything but angry or ignorant. He and I have different horses in this primary race, but I don't think you'll find a more reasoned individual with whom to debate. You might want to rethink that one.

Now it's time for Ron Sims to switch over. Pretty obvious now that there's little chance he'll get a plum Federal appointment from the Clintons. And then there's all that racist trash spewing from Hillary's mouth.....

Reasoned and rational, huh? Yes, I see your point.
Because of course its reasonable & rational to characterize someone as a 'right-wing ditto head' because they find McDermott reprehensible.
Thats some 'thinkin' going on.

Why is it that the far left and the far right constantly cast themselves as intellectuals when they're anything but.

Perhaps it was your use of the name "McDumbDumb."

Just a thought.

Oh! Then there's this:

You guys really don't get it, do you?

Hillary needs to swallow the bitter pill of inevitability now! Selfish pride won't help anyone except McCain. The math doesn't lie. Even with Michigan and Florida counted in Hillary's favor, it's still hugely improbably that Hillary could pull it out. And as many have pointed out, in order for her to do so the superdelegates would have to screw the will of the American people. If that happens then the Democratic party will have gift wrapped the election for McCain. Hillary, please step aside. It wasn't your time.

Laughing at the supers who back other cantidates than their constituants, quickest way to get out of office.
Obama does not get my vote when he wins, we will simply lose any chance to get the WH, thanks, I guess I have to wait another four years for another chance for a dem to be in there.

sportchef, vote for Obama regardless. If you want a Dem in the WH, put one there. Don't let pre-election squabbling get to you. He'll do a fine job.

I don't support Rep. McDermott for what he's done, what he hasn't done, who he is, what he stands for, or what he opposes.

I love 'ol Bagdhad Jim simply because he gets under the skin of you right wing ditto-heads, and that's enough to warrant an "'atta boy Jim" from me.

Obama is so far the only candidate who is not squarely in favor of the status quo. But since he's getting tons of money, he may soon find himself bought in the way most politicians are. let's hope the window from now til then allows him to do some good.

Hillary is not a racist, but, of course people who dislike her will take whatever she says or writes out of context. She is clearly making a point that Obama has had trouble getting the Reagan Democrats and "white" blue collar votes. It's a fact. What has really bothered me the most during these primaries has been the mislabeling of Bill and Hillary Clinton. They are not racists for G*D' sake. Did it ever occur to you that maybe Ron Sims believes in Hillary's plans? Why should supers switch? If we go by your plan, then Hillary should get them from California, NY, and the other states she won. Chances are, you would not want that.

Rational Idiot -
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
So someone who has a different political perspective than you and has disdain for a politician who's been publicly chastised is your enemy. A fellow citizen.
Wow, so YOUR the tolerant party, the party of compassion. '
Typical Seattle liberal - bitter, intolerant, and small minded.
As I said before, keep demonstrating your intellect. All you do is help our side.

What is wrong with all these people jumping on the "Obama band wagon"?
Can they not see that this man is NOT QUALIFIED for the position he is attempting to obtain?
He has no experience in any of the fields that are necessary to be President of anything, except maybe the Glee Club.

With all the issues that will be facing the incumbent we need someone who has been there; seen and experienced what is needed to get our beleaguered country through the trying times ahead.

Come on people, stop being mesmerized by the rhetoric and start thinking for yourselves. Stop following the rest of the sheep and have the guts to stand up for what we need, not what someone else tells you we need.

Don't you love the Republicans calling our candidate "unqualified"?

Was Bush "qualified" for the presidency when he was governor of Tex-sux?

George W. Bush didn't get into the prep school his folks chose. They had to revert to Plan B.

His high school grades were lackluster, but thanks to family connections, he got into Yale. Having "earned" (read: bought) an undergrad degree in History (which is nothing short of priceless, considering his vast vacuum of knowledge of the world arena), he once again used family ties to secure a spot in the Harvard Biz School's MBA program.

Most familiar with post-baccalaureate education will tell you it's easier to get INTO grad school than to get OUT OF it. So, not qualifying based on grades, he got in, and fudging through a program focusing on projects and papers (read: out-of-class "work") rather than tests, he was bestowed an MBA.

He never held a job, instead using family ties to buy his way into an MLB partnership. They weren't eager to have him aboard, so they assigned him a task parallel to being ball boy, but in an administrative capacity.

After successfully convincing Arlington voters they needed a new stadium, at taxpayer expense, the team invokes the doctrine of Eminent Domain and seize property to round out the stadium's site plan.

After being elected governor of Texas, Bush relinquishes his position with the team but retains his ownership status. The team sells in 1995, and Bush pockets $15 million, thanks in part to the stadium project which allowed the team to sign top-rate players and become a force in municipal enterprise.

Just an FYI.
