Seattle tax plan out next week

Mayor Greg Nickels plans to release his proposal for a fall tax levy measure on Tuesday.

His office declined to publicly discuss any details before then.

Nickels has said he'd like to propose a property tax hike to support renovations at Pike Place Market and the Seattle Center. But his office has since acknowledged the Seattle Center portion might not be ready in time to go on this fall's ballot.

Some on the City Council also want to tack on funding to continue the city's parks levy, which expires at the end of the year. Nickels has opposed that idea.

I really think all these people are right out of their minds if they think, come this fall, the economic status of voters will find them eager to vote for more taxes and legacy projects for Nickels and Sims! Hoho!

I wonder how many non-Seattleites will post here whining about taxes.

Last time I checked only we who actually live here get a vote for our city council and mayor who implement this.

Well I live in Seattle and have a right to talk. Nickels wants to bring another Sound Transit proposal to the ballot as well. And maybe by that time there will be a solid proposal for SR-520 also. There might be a logjam. I will scrutinize these proposals. I'm not too happy at the city's "strategy" for Key Arena (give it away + a big bag of money too) and will definitely look hard at the overall plan and the specific projects in each of these proposals.
