« McCain stopping briefly in Seattle Friday | Main | Big crowd for Hillary on Seattle waterfront »
Voter support of the two Democratic presidential candidates, Sens. Barack Obama and Hilllary Clinton, has divided, to some degree, along gender and racial lines in many states' presidential nominating contests.
Obama has done well among African Americans. Clinton has done well among women. Whether coincidence or not, the same thing now has happened on the Seattle City Council.
All six of the council's male members – Richard Conlin, Tim Burgess, Bruce Harrell, Nick Licata, Richard McIver and Tom Rasmussen – announced Thursday that they have endorsed Obama. The group also includes the council's only two African Americans, McIver and Harrell.
All three of the council's white females – Jan Drago, Jean Godden and Sally Clark – previously endorsed Clinton.
Needless to say, nobody on the council prefers any of the Republican presidential candidates, or Seatttle's reliably, reflexively, relentlessly liberal electorate never would've put them on the council in the first place.
