Seattle's "stylish" mayor

Seattle Mayor Greg Nickels has again made one of the glossies.

Nickels is among three dozen mayors whose photos are to be featured in the September issue of Esquire magazine. The photo of Nickels, which appears with five other shots on the last page of the 13-page spread, is a headshot.

The magazine dressed up the mayors and photographed them during the recent gathering of the U.S. Conference of Mayors. The issue hits the stands on Tuesday. According to the magazine's publicity staff, the chosen mayors are "some of the most influential and stylish mayors from across the country." They said no one was available this afternoon to explain the selection criteria.

Each Esquire photo comes with a bit of info. Nickels' says:

Greg Nickels, 52 | Second term
Seattle, Pop. 582,454
Biggest surprise: The number of foreign visitors
that I get. Seattle's an international city. So I get
ambassadors, parliamentarians, presidents. Best
perk: To shop in the market with people whose
lives I've affected. I like that.

I'm sure most of his shopping is of course done near 3rd Ave or Westlake center. His policies affect plenty of people there...

He didn't say he affected them in a good way.

Touche. I suppose he could be sadistic enough to enjoy making things worse for people with policies that they don't understand but are "for their own good" (typical politician...)
