Deputies arrest man after high-speed chase ends with crash

A high-speed chase ended in Des Moines Saturday afternoon with a car crashing in front of a Japanese restaurant and at least one man handcuffed, a resident who lives nearby said.

Paul Beeman, 81, heard a crash and went to the intersection near Marine View Drive South and South 218th Street. He thinks the crash happened around 4:45 p.m.

At least five law enforcement officers, including King County sheriff's deputies, had to handcuff a man who had left a Chevrolet sedan.

The blue car hit one vehicle and bounced off another before it crashed into some rocks in front of Sushi Saki, Beeman said. The car came to rest in a parking lot.

"He was screaming and trying to wrestle with them," Beeman said. "He was fighting them."

An officer or deputy finally used a Taser gun on the man twice, he said. He also spotted an officer or deputy carrying leg chains to the scene.

Beeman counted at least 19 patrol cars from the Des Moines and Burien police departments and the King County Sheriff's Office.

A sheriff's deputy, Beeman said, told him that Burien police wanted to talk with the man. But the car he was in sped away when they approached.

Another man, who was in the car, also was taken into custody, according to Beeman.

A King County sheriff's spokesperson could not be reached immediately on Saturday evening for comment.

I wonder if they had enough police cars at the scene?

"Outta control"? BS! Don't speed away after being pulled over by police. Sheesh. We have a serious crime problem in this area that needs to be corraled. I fully support their efforts.

We haven't seen crime yet. As i speak cops have sirens on in Auburn. As the economy continues going south, then you will see what crime really is. Best be armed and protect yourself EVERYONE.

Waiting to hear what the outcome of this one is. If three jurisdictions got involved, it's possible there cold have been 19 units on the scene, sounds like a multijurisdictional chase.

Oh yes, the stormtroopers must be absolutely out of control. What a lame comment that was.

Bad guy flees in a vehicle. Cops give chase. Bad guy wrecks out. Some moron calls the cops out of control stormtrooper pigs. Sounds like some of those people in Seattle who have constipation of the brain and diarrhea of the mouth. Oh, wait, it is Seattle. Figures.

"Oh, wait, it is Seattle. Figures."

Actually, it was Des Moines.

Thanks for playing.

That's correct, the chase ended in Des Moines. I'm impressed with your ability to read. I should have said 'the Puget Sound area of Eastern Washington' instead of Seattle, I stand corrected. However, given Seattle's reputation as being a bunch of whining, illiterate haters, it's safe to assume that the previous poster resides in Seattle.

I know this man. He's a good guy. Most of you who replied must not know what it's like to

1) go to jail

2) live an unprivlaged life

The economy is bad and is getting worse. Those of us who don't have the luxury of having such opportunities to pursue prosperous lives have to resort to other means of income ((crime)) because minimum wage is not going to cut it.

And for those of you whom I'm sure will read this and try to tell me that people like me and my friend make the choice to do such things, may I remind you that we live in a Capitalistic society in which everything is based on the exploitation of those who do not have ((have's vs. the have not's))

befor you comment please try to be objective and empythize because this could have easily been YOU or me or anyone.

If you decide to blame society for "choices" then I suggest you go straight to jail where you will get free meals and a bed and leave the innocent alone. My family was in one of the cars that was hit in Des Moines...I find nothing forgiving about a choice that caused injury to them and to others. The problem with our society is that we are too forgiving and let those who "choose" not to follow the law back out to repeat their misfortunate life excuse! Get real and get a life...just don't take mine or my family's in the process!!!

He may be a "good guy" but he risked people's lives with his antics. How is that better than the exploitation you accuse capitalists of?

Capitalism isn't easy for everyone. A couple friends of mine came to America with nothing but ambition and now have an 8yo daughter learning algebra and violin in private school. She can beat me at chess and her spelling is already better than yours.

Where do you think they'd be if they'd adopted an attitude of blaming others for their misfortune?

First and foremost I am not condoning his actions & choices but I am not condemning them either.

I am not blaming society either. I am blaming the system. You cannot deny that for capitalism to work smoothly there will be people like this.

How dare you make yourself seem as if you are innocent. You are just as guitly as him, me, and everybody else who participates in the system.

Our soceity is based on survival. I will do whatever it takes to succeed and if that means that people have to get hurt it's not my fault; I'm a product of the system. We are all competing with eachother, and it's not an equal playing field that you like to pretend it is.

Now, the choices you make are based on the choices you know. If you grow up in poverty and the only way out that you know of is a life of crime than guess what choice you will make.

Also for the person who said, "The problem with our society is that we are too forgiving and let those who "choose" not to follow the law back out to repeat their misfortunate life excuse!"

what do you think the purpose of jail is??? I always thought it was rehabilitation.

I believe you're capable of greater things than this attitude.

Hey everyone since I am unable to get a job (probably because I am a convicted felon or a registered sex offender) I will blame it all on, "the system" and take from all those hardworking, honest folks that work for a living and keep society as we know it running.

This is the most ignorant arguement I have ever heard, yet one that is always used because people are lazy and blame their plight and all those around them. How about taking up that minimum wage job and becoming a functioning member of society instead of the being the problem ? I'm sure your answer will be that its not your fault, you were raised poor...blah blah blah.

There are thousands and thousands of success stories of people who grew up poor, without anything but have made it. Why you ask ? Because they don't have the defeatist, its everyone else's fault but my own attitude.

And lets be honest, going to jail is does not rehabiltiation.....jail teaches the criminals how to be better criminals.

Continue with your life of crime. I hope you find yourself at the end of a taser or with a healthy dose of OC covering your face. That's the best form of rehabilitation.
