« Motorist survives bad wreck | Main | Two people injured Saturday in I-90 accident »
Yes, we know this happened last Sunday, but it seemed interesting enough to post for some weekend police reading.
A group of young men were out carousing in the University District Aug. 24 at a bachelor party for their buddy when someone, as a prank, chained a bowling ball to his ankle.
Around 1:40 a.m., as the groom crossed the 5200 block of University Way Northeast, the bowling ball came loose due to a "shoddily attached" screw, according to the Seattle police report. The ball rolled into a motorcycle parked nearby.
Moments later, a second group of men arrived, demanding to know who threw the ball at the motorcycle. Men in both groups had been drinking, police said.
An argument broke out and someone in the second group allegedly grabbed the bowling ball and hurled it at a Lynnwood man from the bachelor party, hitting him in the chest, according to one of his friends.
Later, the man accused of tossing the ball told police he was the victim, and was hit by the bowling ball in the head when someone in the other group threw it at him.
Officers could not sort out the stories, though they determined the motorcycle was not damaged.
One man did go to Harborview Medical Center for a cut to his forehead, though it wasn't clear from reports if that man was the one who claimed to have been assaulted.
And the bowling ball?
The officers took it as evidence.
