Dude, where's my bike?

Hempfest is this weekend, and some people are expected to be stoned at Myrtle Edwards Park.

Many of them will ride the bus and, if it's anything like last year, forget to get their bike off the rack when they depart.

In 2007, 863 people walked off Metro buses without their bikes. The record single-day number was 26 – during one of the days of Hempfest.

Cops say they don't expect any major problems this weekend. In 2003, voters made the investigation, arrest and prosecution of marijuana offenses Seattle's lowest law enforcement priority when the drug was intended for adult personal use.

So have fun, organizers say. But don't forget your bike.

You mean like the driver in the car who was angry he was missing his reservation and ran over folks instead of waiting?

No, like the jerks on bikes who surrounded him first, creating a kidnapping/illegal detention. If only they were getting what they really deserve. Considering the driver was within his legal rights to just drive them over, they got off easy.

What are we going to do? We are going to watch the dozens of cops who show up and watch Critical Mess.

Wonder how many cops will infiltrate the group dressed as cyclists? I suppose they will be easy to spot just like when cops go undercover as dope dealers.

"No, like the jerks on bikes who surrounded him first, creating a kidnapping/illegal detention."

I'm sorry, but you're an idiot. When a delivery truck has to block the street to unload, or when a car blocks an intersection because cars are backed up and they should have left room, that is not kidnapping or illegal detention.

It's an inconvenience, and in the case of the car blocking an intersection, also a traffic citation.

Now I don't agree with their style of corking, but blocking a car so bikes can go by is not kidnapping/illegal detention. Yes, it is illegal (a traffic citation), but it does not justify one to run over anyone!

I also take deep offense of you characterizing all Critical Mass riders by the ONE RIDER who is SUSPECTED of swinging a U-Lock. It's like saying all drivers are drunk and on suspended licenses, or all Republican senators look for sex in airport stalls.

What does Metro do with all these extra bikes?
I wouldn't mind getting a good deal in an auction.

What is the P-I coming to??

Because the largest amount of bikes forgotten on the front loader of buses last year was the same as one of the days of Hempfest, we are clearly led, by this "article," to believe that there is a correlation.

WTF?

So were the second highest amount of bikes forgotten on the other day of Hempfest? How about in years past? Does this happen every year?

How on Earth is this blogger establishing the connection between Hempfest and forgotten bikes from ONE DAY of data???

I love how the city promotes "take your childto work day" for drug dealers..how is it ok to take babies and young kids to a festival filled with pot smoke?

Except that is not what is said to have happened by the people who were there. All seem to agree that when the driver was yelling at them Critical Massers, the CM people decided to surround his car and lecture him on civility. That event, when they surrounded his car so he had to listen to them, was an illegal detention. If the police did it to someone, we would be bent out of shape over the civil rights violation.

But if a handful of rebellious young adults on bikes do it, that's cool? No, it's still an illegal detention.

I think it is the best thing in the world that Seattle Police Department has set a tone for Critical Mass -- people are allowed to drive over CM!

Chill out Pulse.... It's a tongue in cheek article. Looks like we might be a little paranoid!
If you can't see the connection then you must be stoned!

Critical Mass..... "I'm so deeply offended"..... gyngve is funny. gyngve's feelings are hurt.

I'd rather take my kids to hempfest than any professional sporting event.
