Four charged in toilet explosion

Check out pictures and Casey McNerthney's original story in the P-I.

PORT ORCHARD - Kitsap County prosecutors have charged four Bainbridge Island teenagers who are suspected of blowing up portable toilets around the island in June.

The 16-year-old boys will be arraigned in Kitsap County Juvenile Court on July 15 on charges of second-degree malicious mischief. If convicted, they could face time in juvenile detention.

Six suspects were identified by Bainbridge Island police in late June, but only four were charged on Thursday.

Police say so-called "sparkler bombs," made of fireworks sparklers and duct tape, were used to destroy a number of portable toilets, although charging documents only specify two toilets.

If and when it comes to imposing punishment, an effective sentence (and deterrent) might be a couple of days confinement in any portable outhouses that escaped destruction by this group of young vandals. Preferably ones that haven't been cleaned out for a while.

the children who blew up the toilets should be made to keep them clean for a specified time as a public service.

Actually, their punishment should be that if they like blowing up toilets, maybe they shouldn't be allowed to use them. Give them a bucket (with NO cover) and then they can re-live the days when there were NO toilet facilities.

Everyone's suggestions are better thought out than the courts! Not a surprise...

And they all were just getting their lives turned around. Heavy fines, restitution, and 500 hours of community service are suggested.

Lives turned around!! This is halarious ... when I was a teenager I made sport of mailboxes ... but outhouses? That is good.

This is just the life of American teenagers who are trying to get more out of their summer then just sitting around playing computer games.

Community service is appropriate ... I am betting that in the long run these guys will make more out their lives then the average knobs reading the blog.

I am surprised there aren't any $100K bond requests and idiot suggestions to throw the felony book at them. 4 weeks of riding with the honey-bucket truck and get over it
