Abused pigs rescued from sty

Three lucky porkers found in East Wenatchee living among the remains of other pigs are on their way to a Sultan animal rescue.

The pigs were removed from a farm several weeks ago after Douglas County authorities discovered them struggling to stay alive in abysmal conditions, said Amber Chenoweth of Pasado's Safe Haven, the animal shelter were the hogs will be housed.

"It was one of the worst cruelty situations they've ever seen," Chenoweth said. "There were many dead pigs. They were submerged in mud, feces and parts of other pigs."

One rescued sow was found mired in the muck with her head propped on the carcass of another pig, barely keeping her snout above the waste.

The pigs are scheduled to arrive at Pasado's at noon Tuesday. They'll join "Kevin Bacon" and another pig already living high on the hog on a 30-acre pasture.

More info on Pasado's Safe Haven is available here.
