The NWMLS has been warning about fake ads on Craigslist. I didn't think much about it until it happened to me. Thanks to a tip and rental inquiry, I found that someone has been using my listings to lure renters in a fake Craigslist ad.
I flagged it, but it's my understanding that it may take more than one flagging for them to look into it.
These listings are actually for sale for $365,000 and it's in a complex that does not allow rentals the first year of ownership.
I understand that criminals sometimes will place ads in the paper or online to lure in renters, collect a deposit and first and last months rent, and perhaps rent the unit to several renters, before disappearing with their money. It's a terrible scam that takes advantage of people when they're vulnerable and looking for a new home.
Be careful and trust your instincts when it comes to placing money down on a rental property. You can even go to the King County records online to check that the person you're talking to even owns the property you're considering renting.

I saw that on the NWMLS site (it's been there for some time), but I don't understand what this has to do with listings, other than the fact a listing would be vacant. How do they gain access to the property to show it?
And while you're answering that, perhaps you can answer another question referenced but not answered on the NWMLS site? Are the keyboxes off one hour and if so which way and for how long?
