As widely reported by the Everett Herald, The Seattle Times and the Seattle P-I, the Snohomish County Treasurer's Office mailed out their property taxes statements last week but with statements that are too high. The problem is that the Assessor's Office made a huge mistake by leaving out information on some taxable business equipment at a paper mill in Everett (a $150.3 million piece of information) which in turn increased everyone else's bills.
According to Treasurer Bob Dantini's press release statement on Monday, they
"are evaluating the feasibility of reproducing and mailing corrected statements countywide. If that isn't possible within our timeframe, it will be necessary to issue refunds to taxpayers that will have overpaid".
If you pay your taxes personally, you'll want to wait until a revised statement comes in the mail which should arrive by the end of March. If your mortgage company pays for your taxes, the statement will be revised electronically. However, if you've already paid your taxes, it is said that you'll probably receive a refund by November.
