I may have mentioned it before, but I really like Craigslist. It was the perfect tool to facilitate my great sod give away last August. One of the amazing things about this free service is the breadth of what you can find there.
I sold an IKEA bed a couple of months ago and I had people from as far away as Alderwood, if you can believe it. Strangely, the bed took a bit longer to unload than the sod, probably because the sod was free and I wanted $80 for the bed. Business travel also seemed to interfere with the transaction, delaying success a couple of weeks.
During that time, when I had to renew the free ad, I got into the habit of searching for my item by simply entering "DuPont" in the search field. This yields every ad that contains the word DuPont, which means you get a lot of Corian and Stainmaster items to sift through as well as those being sold from our town.
Two things strike me when the results to this search are revealed. The first is that there is a lot of baby and kids stuff available here. Always popular items. The other thing is you learn a little too much about your neighbors and their taste. Many times, each ad is its own story. Many of those stories are best untold.
But today I happened on a story that was downright compelling, if not unusual.
The headline link implored "Please, Please, HELP!" The category was pets. Their isn't a pet lover out there that could resist, but Ferry County? Below is a link to a copy of the page that appeared in Craigslist.
A dog 'napped? A purebred working dog to boot! And a suspect from DuPont? Say it isn't so! The photo and the description paint a vivid picture. A dog keeping the livestock in check in a picturesque mountain hamlet. A town as close to Kelowna, British Columbia as it is to Spokane. This is a place past Omak and north of the Colville reservation. That is one seriously missing dog.
But DuPont?
You could imagine the anguish the owner must have felt losing an important pet and four pawed ranch hand. But a mere two days later, the next chapter of the saga was written.
The dog, Gabe, has been found safe! Evidently, the response from people to the Craigslist ad proved to be the catalyst for the happy reunion.

The question remains, how did the dog end up in DuPont? That is about 330 miles away from home. Was it a good deed that went bad or a bad deed that turned out good? Whatever the case, all is well that ends well.
