Dude, we have a pool!

Does anyone else know Queen Anne has a community pool? Dumb question I guess, but I had no idea, which is why it was such an awesome discovery to wander by the community pool located on 1st Avenue at Howe street. It was probably a nice surprise for the girl behind the counter there to see an adult get so excited about a community pool. "Dude, that's awesome!" I said, as if I found a $50 bill in my jeans pocket. She was a little taken aback.

I have been trying to get back into swimming and I can't stand gyms, so this is a most exciting discovery. Better yet, the open lap swims don't happen at odd times in the day inaccesible to those of us with the usual 9-5 jobs (or kids to pick up at school, doctor appointments to attend, etc.).

Costs are reasonable, with monthly passes for $45 letting you in to all the classes and lap swimming you can handle, or punch cards starting with a 10-class minimum for $35 for those of us (ahem...me) who might only make it once a week or so.

Yes, QA has a pool. There also used to be a high school up there (maybe you've walked by those really fancy condos). The Metropolitan Market was until recently called the Queen Anne Thriftway (if you can believe that!). Maybe you can tell us about the trolley that used to run up the hill, or where the term "counterbalance" came from. Other "hidden" places you might want to visit include Targy's, Bhy Kracke Park, and oh yeah, there's this jogging loop that a few people know about too.

Hmmm....apparently the unregistered user does not appreciate the joys of the QA pool?!?! Next week's topic: "jogging" routes around QA.

Let the tri training begin! My arms are still sore...
